Maurice O Eldridge arrived in the city and will speak on Construction and Maintenance of Gravel roads at 2 20 this afternoon in the court house. A test run of the fire department will follow with the cars raced up North for timing and rivalry among companies.
Mrs John Zawissler who suffered a broken rib when thrown from a spring wagon while returning from Jackson park with her husband is recovering and now able to be up.
At the court house lawn on Sunday afternoon the union service will feature Rev. H. Robert Smith of the First Baptist church delivering the sermon.
George Westlake, a reformed police character, was summoned by police last evening to answer for using indecent language before a group of boys. He claimed the boys taunted him with insults to his character and denied the accusation, noting his attempt to live upright while earning a living selling small articles.
William Walters was charged with cruelty to animals on a case brought by Herbert Greene. Walters testified he unhitched and fed the horse Thursday evening, but Greene claimed the hitching and harness style was unusual. Judge Converse fined Walters $5 and costs after refuting his testimony. Walters kept the horse and buggy until 2 40 a m Friday.
Jesse Null, a resident of Batonice, was arrested last evening by Officer Hebble Ink on North Street according to police records. The report offers few details about the alleged offense.
George A. Doney of Cambridge sues Dickinson Trust Company guardian of his father William A. Doney for 2192.60 alleging due for care nursing boarding and assistance while the father was part of the family.
Henry A Johnson admitted his son Harry did not strike him but threw him in the confrontation at Fifteenth and Main streets. Judge Converse quashed the assault and battery affidavit against Harry Johnson, while Henry Johnson Sr. was fined $1 and costs after pleading guilty in a private hearing.
Webster Indiana August 7 The Democratic township convention named Howard Harris for trustee Wright L Witmer for assessor and Jacob Fue John Planckenhorn and William Lamb for the advisory board Carl Harris was chosen temporary chairman and William Lamb secretary.
Cambridge City Indiana August report says Lew Boyd returned from Oklahoma after six weeks with Oliver Hebble. Boyd was not impressed with the state’s advantages. Hebble will stay briefly to visit his brother John who lives here.
Chief of Police Jeese Bailey gets a $10 raise to a $110 monthly salary. First Sergeant Daniel McManus gains $5 to reach $80 plus the $10 bailiff pay, totaling $90 per month.
Wilfred Jessup, the prosecuting attorney, will be away from the city for a few days on a nonbusiness trip to Mount Vernon and Evansville. During his absence, Charles Ladd, the Republican nominee for the office, will act as prosecuting attorney in his first opportunity as a legal light.

News from Victoria B C reports the Japanese sealing schooner Miye seized at Copper Island on June 27 during a raid on seal rookeries. The Miye and a companion ship took part in the June 16 1905 St Paul Island attack where five Japanese were killed and 12 wounded. The Mine was captured by a Russian cruiser near Kamchatka, and Captain Nomura and 31 crew captured and imprisoned at Petropavlosk. Japanese protests over imprisonment have been sent to St Petersburg.
Elizebeth M Stewart known as Mother Stewart, famed temperance leader, died in Hickeville Ohio at age ninety two. Her body to be sent to Springfield for burial. She founded Ohio's first Women's Christian Temperance Union in Osborn in 1873 and helped organize a British WCTU chapter in 1876.
Citizens pressed the Board of Works and traction officials to approve a freight route avoiding Glen Miller Park. The prospective paths include South Eighth to Main, or South Twenty third to Eighth, or a Glen route revision, with threats of legal action and mass meetings if rejected. South End residents favor the freight line to boost city service and development.
John Donlin asked Judge Converse to let him leave town and avoid trouble but the judge fined him 25 dollars and costs and attached 30 days to his sentence making 66 days in jail. Miss Hazel Mashmeyer is improving and able to be out. J B Kanapke was arrested for intoxication and fined one dollar and costs by Judge Converse.
