Captain Thomas Damron Mareum Marcum, 81, longtime Catlettsburg resident and Civil War veteran, died at home. Born December 17, 1840 in Lawrence County Kentucky, he served as captain in the Fourteenth Kentucky Infantry and was Kentucky’s first postwar Democrat to win a state office, registrar of lands in 1875. A thirty-second degree Mason and Baptist, he married Mars Bromley in 1865. she died years ago. Survived by three children J. F. Mareum of South Point Ohio, Mrs. Alonzo Mims and Mrs. E Walton of Catlettsburg.
