Washington November meeting of five great powers and others begins under President Harding with a pledge to build a new international order. He argues for less armament, shared sacrifice, and immediate cooperation to achieve lasting peace and justice for all nations.
Washington November 12. President Harding received a warm ovation as he delivered the keynote address. The speech emphasized national unity and economic recovery, drawing praise from lawmakers and citizens in attendance.
Jasper Combs Robert Caldwell and O C Fletcher of Berea College vocational program were injured when a wheel broke and the car rolled over a mile from Richmond on a run to a Legion-State football game. Combs suffered three broken ribs a neck fracture and other injuries. Caldwell had internal injuries and Fletcher a badly hurt hand and arm Oscar Rader injured with cuts and bruises. all were taken for treatment after the crash near F Y Chenaults home.
Dr T J Berryman died at his home on College Hill after a long illness at age 76. A longtime community figure and former Estill County resident, he served in the Baptist church. Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. Rev Tod by of Cynthiana officiated and burial followed in College Hill cemetery. Survived by his wife two daughters Mrs Cecil Willoughby and Mrs Dosie Ginter and two sons Sam Berryman of College Hill and Clay Berryman of Ravenna.
After Tuesday’s election the new Madison County Fiscal Court will have eight members four Republicans and four Democrats with County Judge elect Goodloe presiding. The closest race was in the 8th district where Republican Jones defeated Democrat Teater by three votes. Detailed precinct tallies show Democratic gains and Republican holds across districts including Tipton and Long without opposition.
Secretary Hughes at the conference on arms limitation proposed a ten year halt in naval construction and the immediate destruction of 66 capital ships totaling about 1.8 million tons. The United States would scrap six battle cruisers seven battleships on the ways and two launched, Japan seven new and ten old, Britain all first and second line battleships up to the King George V class.
The National Fox Hunters Association opens its 18th annual meeting at Crab Orchard Springs with Dr. R L Telford of the First Presbyterian Church of Telford delivering an old fashioned sermon to the fox hunters. Len Shouse's Great Stride leads the opening Futurity, with four foxes seen and a tie for third among dogs owned by Berea, Versailles, Ashland, Chicago and others. Delly Varden Flour-White is advertised for sale at Richmond Welch Store for 90c.
The Men's Bible Class of First Christian Church will meet in the Elks Lodge Room while church auditorium is decorated. All members should attend Sunday at 9 30 with D W Kennedy as President.
