All men interested in debating urged to try out for the dual debate with Lynchburg College on October 12 in room 1 of the Administration building. Four debaters will be chosen to represent the University with two supporting the negative. Previous series show Richmond as favored in debates with Lynchburg.
The International Relations Club meets Tuesday October 4 with A. V. Cosolaro presiding. Plans for the year include discussion of goals and a new constitution amid changes to ease old form. Previous officers include Perry Stubbs vice president Walter Wyne secretary Halward Eanes treasurer and Dr MecDanel faculty advisor.
Dr. L. L. Walton of the Westhampton Baptist church invites students from Westhampton and Richmond Colleges to a social tonight at 8 30 with a novel program. He also urges attendance at the Sunday 10 A M College class and the BY P WU meeting at 7 P M. The church sits at stop 26 on the Westhampton car line, five minutes from campus.
Plans are under way for the annual Student Government Reception at Milhiser Gymnasium on October 28. All University of Richmond students are invited to attend this big social event with a masquerade theme and masked attendees.
Beginning this week Richmond College students will gather for morning prayers from 8 40 to 9 00 daily in the Chapel replacing the mid day chapel meetings. The faculty committee includes Doctors Rudd Harlan Gaines McDanel and Dean Prince with rotating chairmanship by Dr Harlan for three months then Dr McDanel then Dr Gaines.
Robert T. Marsh Jr. earns a BA from the University of Richmond and an MA from the University of Virginia. He serves as president of the Richmond Chapter of the American Institute of Banking and is connected with First and Merchants National Bank. Also Dr. Boatwright orders 2000 more volumes for the T C Williams Law School library, bringing yearly total to 15,000 volumes.
The Student Government Association will hold a meeting next Monday October 3 at 1 30 pm in the chapel to elect Editor in Chief of the Collegian to fill the vacancy left by Dave Herman. Candidate Emroch is already editor of the Web, creating a unique situation for the office.
Richmond College freshmen are informed of the campus rat rules posted around the campus. The Sophomore Class issued commandments to govern rats and town and campus life. Rules include staying off the grass, not being seen with Westhampton girls without an upperclassman past Christmas, wearing a green ribbon on the coat lapel, and always donning the rat cap on and off campus.
Alumni and friends will visit the campus for University Week from Wednesday to Saturday October 26 through 29. Dr Steven Leacock of Magill University Montreal will lecture, Miss Deneke of Oxford University will give a musical recital, and a local Dramatic Club play may be produced with receptions for alumni.
Students may join the Collegian staff by interviewing 2 PM Monday in the Y M C A building. See R P Johnson or Donald R Mann for general positions and W K Gaines for sports, with preference for proven journalistic ability.
The University of Richmond trustees meet to choose a site for the Henry Mansfield Cannon Memorial Chapel funded by Mrs. Henry Mansfield Cannon with a gift of 125000. The building will harmonize with campus Collegiate Gothic architecture and will not replace the existing chapel. Work will begin once a site is decided and plans drawn.
President Boatwright announces Miss Garfield Leach engaged as supervisor of the Men's dormitories. She will oversee servants, cleanliness, and student health, with afternoon presence at Dr. Pitt's gym office. R. N. Sibold continues as student assistant to Dr. Pitt. Miss Leach is a graduate nurse with World War I service aboard the McGuire Unit.
Interfraternity Council sets rushing to begin at 10 00 P M Tuesday October 13 and run until midnight October 16. Faculty members Seay and Macoanel outline rules including no pre arranged meals for freshmen and a 2 4 ratio limit at events incurring expense.
The University Players Executive Committee met at Westhampton to draft a constitution for the group. Members include Miss Lydia Hatfield Miss Cecelia Hunt Mr GW Taylor and Mr Robert Edwards ex officio. The committee will be permanent with the business manager as a member to aid productions and finances.
Thirty five men have matriculated in the University of Richmond evening school of business administration, headed by Professor Ralph B. Harris. Enrollment continues this week with evening entrance from seven to nine at the T. C. Williams School of Law. Courses include two English, three accounting, and one each in economics, investments, business law, transportation, government, marketing, and insurance. Each course meets one night weekly for two class hours. Two hours credit toward the bachelor of science in business administration are awarded upon completion.
