Band Names New Director for University of Richmond

Captain D I Joachim, John Marshall High School Band director, has been appointed director of the University of Richmond Band. President George M Modlin announced the vote and a 60 piece marching band plan. Joachim will meet interested students today at 4 in the gym trophy room and asks players to bring instruments.

Alumnae Plan Founders Day at Westhampton College

Plans for the annual Alumnae Celebration of Pounder’s Day at the Richmond Female Institute and the old Richmond Woman’s College include chapel services on Tuesday October 2 with Mrs Charles R Marsh of Williamsburg speaking. Virginia Fleet president of Nostrae Filiae will preside. A luncheon in Keller Hall followed the ceremony to conclude the day.

Cohen Seeks New Debaters for Richmond College Team

Cohen newly elected president of the Forensic Council invites all men interested in forensic work to meet the Richmond College Debate Team at 1 30 P.M. October 2 in the Playhouse. He was chosen at a council meeting last Tuesday. Applications for team manager will be accepted at the meeting. The debaters plan to travel to eastern colleges.

Freshman Class Elects Ford President at Richmond College

Aubrey Ford Jr., son of the university’s national alumni president, won the freshman class presidency defeating Aubrey Rosser and Arthur Jackson. Other elected officers include William Astrop, James Anderson, Billy Sloope, and John Campbell. Dean Clarence Gray urged drivers to slow for campus safety with a 15 mile hour campus limit and stricter off campus rules.

Players Present Free Campus Entertainment At Playhouse

Sim Taylor, president of the Players, announces a free 8 15 pm Playhouse show to welcome new members and address campus living costs. The evening features songs skits and audience participation with the four campus members on hand to ensure harmony and humor. Stettinius To Speak At Modlin Inaugural

Edward R. Stettinius Jr will deliver the principal address at the University of Richmond inaugural for George M Modlin in Cannon Memorial Chapel on November 16. The event follows Modlin's formal elevation to the presidency as invited by J Vaughan Gary and the board of trustees.

Lawson Pankey announced eight new men joining the YMCA Council. The appointees are Percy Gates Lowell Ellet Harold Smith son Earle Dunford Robert Moss Lawrence Yofty James Jeter and Lawrence Seyler. They will be installed at the next regular meeting on Tuesday October 1 at 11 30 A M in the Y building.

Westhampton Freshmen Rally In Ratting Tradition

Westhampton freshmen stage a playful fall ritual atop Thomas Hill, mixing colors and chalking rules while avoiding the sophomore code. The lighthearted pranks include red and yellow socks and a nail polish chalking system, as rumors of an impending showdown with the class of 49 and a future class of 61 circulate.

Fraternity Elects Longaker to Interfraternity Post

George Longaker of Phi Gamma Delta was elected chairman of the Interfraternity Dance Committee at a Tuesday Interfraternity Council meeting. Rushing rules delaying new pledges until mid semester were distributed. Walton Mallory of Phi Gamma Delta was named chairman of the Interfraternity Relations Committee. Longaker then began planning the first of an expected three dances.
