Richmond College Senior Dies In Six Car Crash On Bridge

Richmond College senior Robert W. Welch 21 died from head injuries after a six car crash on the Lee Bridge last weekend. He was driving a 1969 Volkswagen that veered into the southbound lane and struck multiple vehicles at about 12:45 AM. Welch, a Dean's List student with a 3.6 average, had worked late at the State Capitol. Two other people were injured, including a taxi driver who may lose a leg. The Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity mourned his death as a quiet strong personality.

Debate Coach Named Dean Assistant at Richmond Summer School

Max Ci. Graeber, debate coach and faculty member for five years, has been named assistant to the Dean of the Summer School at the University of Richmond. He will promote meetings, institutes, and workshops and assist with academic programs, faculty matters, catalogue prep, advertising and reports on Summer School activities.

Richmond College Senate Adopts Election Day Pause And Aid Measures

The Richmond College Senate unanimously approves suspending classes on election day to boost voter participation. It also backs moving student workers payday to month end and allowing short-term loans against work hours. New Judicial and Honor Council appointments are announced as a plan for bicycle racks pricing and placement is discussed. An October freshman election assembly is mandated during election week.

Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity to Close on Campus

ZBT at the University of Rhode Island will fold after a meeting last Tuesday. The fraternity owed the university 800 dollars and faced 7000 dollars in loan debts for lodge expansion that left 10 members. Social members from other groups may absorb the lodge as remaining brothers relocate.

Students Urged to Renew Draft Deferments by Sept 30

Anyone possessing a student deferment should visit the registrar's office before September 30 to renew it for the new school year. Failure to renew could result in loss of the deferment as the draft remains active.
