Fresh Primary Selects Men To Fill Offices

University of the class of 1939 held a chaotic nominating meeting at the University Playhouse. Ten candidates per office were chosen with votes to be cast next Monday September 28. Nominees for president included Vitaly Grigg Graham Kibler. for senator Brandis Mundy Sanford Crews. for vice president nine names remain: Houchins Alexander Ridenour Norvell James Motley Calamus Brown Fields. Secretaries aspirants were Somers Jackson Francisco Church and treasurer contenders Wyatt Chapin Jackson Taylor.

Crane Speaks At First Rally At Millhiser Gym

The first student rally of the year was held in Millhiser Gymnasium last Monday night at 7 30 with Griffin Garnett head cheerleader in charge. Garnett led songs and pep routines as coaches and officials spoke urging freshmen to join athletic activity. Co captains Schaaf and Lacey introduced the squad while the band played and cheerleaders led cheers. A second rally is planned for the night of the 27th before the Randolph Macon game with Dr W A Hartis as guest of honor.

Seniors Urged to Obtain Caps and Gowns

Seniors should timely secure cap and gown for the opening convocation held Friday this week. Rental price reduced to 2.50 dollars with two payment options detailed by Dr. Loving including a 1.00 refund in June.

Changes in University of Richmond Curriculum for 1986-86

The University of Richmond announces new courses and changes for 1986-86 including English 28-24 Advanced Composition taught by Alton Williams, English 25-26 Dramas, Economics 18-14 replacing Business Administration 1-2, Sociology 1 replacing Criminology, and a new Sociology 1-2 section meeting three days a week for 40 dollars. Botany and Zoology plans adjust to a split one semester each for the year.

Literary Groups Welcome Fresh To Their Ranks

The Samuel Chiles Mitchell Literary Society convened at 7 30 P M in Room B of the T Williams School of Law to welcome freshmen, in a Lombardy and Grace Streets gathering aimed at town students. Hudson Price led the Philologian Society in Room A and Paul Watlington presided Mu Sigma Rho with short talks on aims and methods followed by refreshments and invitations to future meetings.

Virginia Intercollegiate contest seeks new name for The Southern Comic

September 28 is final date to submit entries for naming The Southern Comic new publication. A $5 prize goes to the winning name author. University of Richmond students are urged to contribute could be prose or drawings. Submissions to The Southern Comic Richmond Virginia 885. monthly issues with 15 cent sales on campuses.

Freshman writers struggle at The Colle ran tryouts as editors rove the scene offering caustic comments. Some freshmen begin crafting replies while editors soon back off, muttering about the show and the scene.

Williams to Teach New Richmond College Courses

Alton Williams will conduct two new classes this year at Richmond College Advanced Composition and Dramatic Technique Open now for all men who completed English 1-2 The first course covers words sentences and paragraphs with focus on developing individual writing style The Dramatic Technique course targets future high school teachers studying selections from plays then play production design lighting and direction Students are urged to enroll immediately.

New drama professor Alton Williams outlines an active season at the University Players featuring The Devil in the Cheese by Tom Cushing and four or five additional productions plus the 1986 Rigmarole. Mitchell to Speak at Richmond Convocation This Friday

S C Mitchell will deliver the principal address at the University of Richmond opening convocation for its 104th session. President Boatwright and deans will welcome students and report enrollment prospects. Mitchell recently returned from study abroad and will speak on an as yet unannounced topic.

Sophomore Class Elects Johnson President as Nelson Absent

Thomas Johnson, named treasurer last spring, becomes Sophomore Class president after a decisive show of hands. J. T. Arendall is elected treasurer, with Oscar Tolliver and Charles Harper as rivals. Wallace, the former president pro tempore, resigns to return to vice president duties. Johnson, active in college publications and theater, is an alumnus editor and Sigma Phi Epsilon member. Arendall serves as Y M C A cabinet treasurer and freshman basketball manager. Further meetings planned to organize freshmen activities.

Westhampton Sophomores Plan Rat Day Prank

Westhampton College sophomores announced plans to revive Rat Day with freshmen required in a meeting last week. If carried out, crowds will see freshmen in water buckets and mismatched dress as they attend classes, while left shoes on the wrong feet hinder climbing Westhampton hill.
