Alumni Homecoming Draws Small Crowd at UR

Returning graduates enjoyed a weekend of golf, dinners, a variety show and a worship service at the University of Richmond Homecoming. Golf winner Harry Lea led 89 golfers with a 75 on the James River Course while attendance remained notably modest.

UR Queen Celebrates A Birthday Crowned Homecoming Queen

Peggy Peters, a University of Richmond senior, was crowned Homecoming Queen a week before her 21st birthday. She said the honor outshined prior runner-up status and noted the court’s extended reign with strong public relations use. Her fiance Tom Forehand escorted her, with Martha Schoonover Maid of Honor and several princesses named.

Fire Damages Virginia Institute of Scientific Research

A chemical explosion and fire at the Virginia Institute for Scientific Research on River Road caused about 100000 in damage. Dr P Acharya was cut by glass but no others were hurt. 11 fire trucks battled the blaze as cabinets and notebooks were destroyed and months of work lost.

Police Change Parking Rule

Police Chief Robert G. Dillard announced a weekend parking rule allowing students to use faculty spaces in the faculty lot from 6:00 p.m. Friday to 6:00 p.m. Sunday. The change excludes spaces marked reserve or with faculty names, with reserves to be posted if special events require it.

Absence Rule Questionnaire To Be Sent

Questionnaires will be sent to the faculty to evaluate the effects of this year's suspension of holiday absence penalties. The faculty will be asked to agree with statements about absenteeism and its impact on classes. Professor J. J. Taylor expects the measure to be abolished. No action will be taken until next spring. Academic probation students must attend. freshmen may opt to count holiday absence as a regular limit.
