Pi Delta Epsilon Freshman Editorial Contest Open at Richmond College

Pi Delta Epsilon announces its third annual freshman editorial contest at Richmond College under The Collegian. Entries must be original, under 500 words, and submitted to Donald Mann by January 15 1930. Winning editorial may receive a goldwash prize or silver cup and be published.

Billikopf Funds Lectures for Spring Series

At an executive committee meeting President Boatwright announced a $500 yearly gift from Dr Jacob Billikopf for three years to finance lectures akin to the Thomas Lectures of University Week. Billikopf will fund a Springer series in April or May, inspired by the success and public interest in the Richmond Thomas lectures.

Problem of Choosing Publication Heads Discussed at Meeting

At a regular Student Government meeting two major issues were debated. A proposal would have the University of Richmond board of publications appoint editors and business managers annually rather than student elections. The motion requires two weeks to allow for constitutional amendment consideration.

Richmond College Debates Hold November Tryouts

On November 14 Richmond College will hold tryouts for the first intercollegiate debates. Teams of two will form a negative and an affirmative to face Lynchburg College and Bridgewater College. Debates schedule includes December 5 versus Randolph Macon and December 12 versus Bridgewater.

U of R German Club to Feature Carolina Tarheels Thanksgiving

The University of Richmond German Club hosts the Carolina Tarheels Orchestra Alec Mendenhall’s ensemble for a Thanksgiving Day dance at the Mosque Ball Room from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM. William and Mary football players will attend as guests, with many students planning to stay over to enjoy the event.

At the University of Richmond Student Government meeting next Monday several issues will be debated. Appointments of heads of publications and business managers by the Board of Publications and campus dancing are key topics. President Yeaman urges large attendance. voting requires payment of the Student Government Budget Fee.

Sigma Phi Epsilon Tops Fraternity Scholarship Scores 1928 29

The Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity earned the highest average grade 84.56 percent in the Inter-Fraternity Council ranking for 1928 29. The award, the Inter-Fraternity Scholarship cup, will be presented soon and kept by the current leader until another group surpasses them.

Sophomores Plan Rat Parade For Homecoming Day

The Sophomore class formed a 12 member Rat parade committee headed by Russell Whalen at a October meeting. They aim to stage a Rat parade on November 16 before the Hampden Sydney game to honor Homecoming Day and impress visiting alumni. Freshmen must pay twenty five cents to Jack Wright by November 8 to participate.

University of Richmond Alumni Open House for Homecoming Event

Local alumni chapters across the state back an annual Homecoming Day at the University of Richmond set for Saturday November 16. Fraternities join in inviting alumni to return for open house, a Hampden Sydney game gathering, halftime broadcast, Rat Parade costumes, prize awards, and a post game supper at the college refectory.

University to Add Pool and Rooms to Gym

Plans completed for a swimming pool thirty five by seventy five feet at the Roger Millhiser Gymnasium. The addition will include boxing and mat rooms dressing rooms and exercise space. Funds from Mrs Regina Milliser and late Mr Clarence Millhiser honor Roger Millhiser.

Phoenix Club Elects Officers for New Year

The University of Richmond Phoenix Club held its first meeting of the year to elect officers. J. B. Wilborn was chosen president, H. A. Stephenson vice president, and Pat Ely secretary treasurer. Professors O. W. Bailey and R. F. Smart were installed as wardens. The group plans to expand its activities this college year.

Junior and Senior Prom Set for December Six at University Club

The Junior-Senior Prom Committee urges all Juniors and Seniors to save pennies and reserve dates for the annual dance on December 6 from nine to one at the University Club. Freshmen and Sophomores are asked to refrain from buying tickets to avoid confusion.
