The American Chemical Society invites university and college freshmen to compete in the 1930-31 Prize Essay Contest. The annual event honors their daughter through Mr. and Mrs. Francis P. Gowan of New York City. A University of Richmond student previously won, encouraging participation this year.
University of Richmond announces the Junior-Senior Prom set for December fifth from nine to one. Chairman Joseph Robinson leads a committee including PHU Stephenson and Dick Payne to finalize details. Admission is one dollar and attendance is limited to Juniors Seniors and officers of the Sophomore and Freshman classes.
Four classes met last Monday November 3 1930 at 11 o clock while the Student Government Association did not meet at that hour. The Senior and Junior classes jointly convened in Room R with W. C. Winn presiding as Senior class president. The main item was discussed before continuance.
The University of Richmond Library received from Dr John Calvin Metcalf a donation of 47 new volumes for the Victor Sharp Metcalf Memorial. Titles include Garland Roadside Meetings Corbin Unknown Washington Wingfield-Stratford History of British Civilization and Indians and Pioneers, edited by Foreman.
The University of Richmond football team visited the National Theatre last Monday for Richmond University night to see the film Maybe It's Love. The All-American team plot and stars James Hall Joan Bennett and Joan Tennett drew cheers from the students and players.
The second quadrennial conference of the All-Southern Baptist Union wrapped in Atlanta Georgia after a four day event from October 30 to November 2. More than 2 100 delegates attended from colleges across sixteen states and the District of Columbia reflecting wide regional representation.
Tau Kappa Alpha in Lynchburg plans the annual cup for the top state debating team based on victories over total debates. Richmond representatives Gerhard C. Henricksen and Julian Savage attended, and teams must debate at least four other colleges. Questions for this year to be debated are listed.
Dr Garnett Ryland head of University of Richmond Chemistry attends Johns Hopkins University conference in Baltimore with donors awards committees and fellows recipients. Fellowships provide $1000 per year for four years. The Virginia fellowship by DuPont was won last spring by Clarence P Ely of Richmond College. Dr Ryland chairs the Virginia committee.
The campus announces November 15 as the annual alumni homecoming day date. A Web photographer will resume at Richmond College in the Chemistry Building next week on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday to take campus pictures for the annual. Students may schedule by seeing Goodwyn Welsh or an assistant in the basement. Half the representation fee is due at the photo session with the balance due February 1.
Richmond composers Nathan Oppleman and John Batkins wrote the Victory Swing which has been adopted by students as the college song and is now with publishers. The rushed release aims for the Hampden Sydney game and has drawn requests from Richmond and beyond including a Chicago revue and two local radio stations.

The Richmond College annual homecoming set for November 15 promises unusual importance with a Freshman Rat parade as the opening event. A sophomore committee led by James Dodd, George Whitley, and William Pettus plans the frolic. The main football highlight is Richmond versus Mampden-Sydney.
Rehearsals progress for three one act plays Rosalind The Valiant and The Man in the Bowler Hat to be produced November 15 in the Red Cross Building. University Players direct the productions with cast members including Marjorie Crawford Elizabeth Grey Urquhart Stephenson Grover Ledlie Jr and others.
Westhampton seniors entertained their sophomore sisters with a Red Cross Building Hallowe'en party. The haunt featured costumes a White Phantom presiding over games bobbing for apples fortunes and a prize for best Spirit of Hallowe'en. Dancing followed with a broomstick for unpaired guests and table games by the fire ending with black and yellow refreshments.
