Frat Houses On Way Out Say Trustees

University of Richmond will banish fraternity houses by fall 1959 under a 1947 trustees ruling. Five lodge buildings now stand as the system replaces traditional houses, sparking debate over equality and housing adequacy for fraternities.

Westhampton student wins Fulbright for UK study

Rosie Allen, a Westhampton College senior, won a Fulbright fellowship for a first academic year in England to study English literature at a small British college. Fellowships cover transportation, tuition, maintenance, and expenses. she sails September 6 aboard the USS United States and plans to teach later in the United States.

Web 1957 arrives June 3 with campus distribution

The 1957 Web will be a colorful surprise when distributed Monday June 3. Editor R. Gent Cofer confirmed the date with Albrecht and Co. in Baltimore. Distribution happens in the Web office on the fourth floor of the Student Center and at Westhampton College. This marks the Web’s first pre commencement appearance in four years.

Richmonds June commencement set with Bishop address

Graduation at the University of Richmond runs the second week of June with about 110 from Richmond College and 75 from Westhampton College to receive degrees. Dr Curtis VI Bishop will deliver the commencement address at 7 30 p m June 9 in Cannon Memorial Chapel.

Thomas Receives AKPsi Service Award Here

Dr. Herman Pollard Thomas acting Dean of the School of Business Administration received the Alpha Kappa Psi Faculty Award in recognition of thirty years of service. The Delta Zeta chapter presented the certificate at a Friday banquet, also gifting a leather briefcase and a Schaeffer pen set. the event drew AKPsi members and several faculty.

Night Instrumental Analysis Class Studying Mass Spectrometer

Eighteen to nineteen students attend a graduate level Instrumental Analysis course at Puryear Hall twice weekly. Dr. W Allan Powell and another instructor lead lectures and Saturday labs using instruments such as mass spectrometers infrared spectrophotometers and gas chromatographs. The program collaborates with Philip Morris Reynolds Metals and local firms for demonstrations and hands on experience.
