Long Careers End As Harlan And Prince Retire

Dr Rolvix Harlan professor of sociology and William L Prince dean of the summer session and professor of education will retire at the close of the current academic year after over 25 years at the University of Richmond Portraits will be presented during commencement Alumni Day June 1 and a special ceremony June 3 at Westhampton College social center building Harlan has been a noted public speaker on social reform and has held the sociology chair since 1922

Eight Professors to Join UR Summer Staff

Seven visiting professors and one returning instructor will join the University of Richmond staff this summer to bolster enrollment. William J Prince announced the plan. N Wilford Skinner returns as German professor after a wartime or other service. Other new appointees include William E B Trout in chemistry from Mary Baldwin College and A Topp from the University of Toronto. J Kenneth Rodes joins economics. W Daniel Bilis will teach at Albert H Hill Junior High School.

1946 Web to Appear Next Friday at University of Richmond

The 1946 Web yearbook from the University of Richmond is slated for May 31 distribution. It features Eisenhower and Nimitz on two pages, a campus couples page, and sections on The University Richmond College Westhampton College and T. C. Williams. The yearbook contains a Roll of Honor for World War II alumni and campus activity photos.

T C Williams Men To Join University Debaters Next Fall

Stanley Cohen announced that next September members of the T C Williams School of Law will be eligible for the Richmond College debate team. A May 9 debate between RC debaters and University of Virginia representatives was broadcast on a local radio station. RC debaters plan a full program for next year with competitions against several eastern colleges.

Web annuals pickup dates announced for students

O. J. Graham Jr. the business manager of the Web announces students may collect their annuals in Room H on May 31 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on June 1 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Langley Wood Wins Messenger Short Story Contest

Langley H. Wood of Richmond College won the Messenger campus short story contest. He will receive a $10 prize for his story Roses Are Rife. Editor Pletcher Stiers noted high participation and that Richmond College entries were largely superior.

Pruden To Give Baccalaureate Sermon Sunday

Dr Edward W Pruden of the Presidents Church Washington D C and Dr J Hillis Miller associate commissioner of education New York both University of Richmond alumni will deliver the baccalaureate sermon and commencement address respectively for the 114th session at Cannon Memorial Chapel and the Luther H Jenkins Greek Theater June 2 and June 4. President Frederick W Boatwright will preside over the ceremonies in Richmond.

Forensic Group Elects Cohen Price Gettier

Bob Price Straughan Gettier and Stanley Cohen were elected by outgoing Forensic Council members as 1946 47 at large student body representatives. Cohen acting president plans to make the year the biggest in forensics at the University of Richmond. Debating teams and literary societies to expand. The intersociety debate ended in a first place tie between S Mitchell and Philologian.
