Westhampton College reorganizes Honor Council into bicameral system

The student body voted to replace a single five member Honor Council with two bodies. A Resident Council of five dormitory students will handle social rules and an upper council for major cases will include day and resident students. One chairman will head both groups and new elections create an additional house president. Amended rules take effect next semester.

TKA Picks Gettier As New President

Tau Kappa Alpha elected Straughan Lowe Gettier president of the Forensic honor society during initiation ceremonies in Brunet Building last Tuesday. Bob Gotten was named secretary-treasurer for 1940-41. Initiations were conducted by John B. Jordan. Ed Arendall was tapped but not initiated.

Final Dance Arrangements Set for June 10 and 11

Plans are complete for the final dance program in Millhiser Gymnasium with two college orchestras. Frankie Gerard of Duke University opens Monday followed by Vince Courtney of North Carolina on Tuesday. Admission for non subscribers runs eight dollars for three dances. individual dance prices vary. Subscriptions admit free to all dances. Gerard’s “sweet swing” echoes Glen Miller and has drawn praise at colleges and night clubs.

Westhampton Juniors Host Co ed Farewell for Seniors

The Westhampton Juniors stage a farewell dance in the gym Friday June 7 from nine to twelve thirty. The Southern Serenaders provide swing and waltz with ten musicians and eleven vocalists. Refreshments, Tea Room during intermission. Jean Neasmith chairs the dance committee. Margaret Purcell publicity chair. Admission for stag or drag is the regular charge.

Richmond College Planning Commission elects Pugh as chairman

The Richmond College Planning Commission chose Tom Pugh for chairman and Straughan Lowe Gettier for secretary treasurer at a meeting with the old members. The body, including Bob Keil and others, reviewed the year and outlined issues for next fall.

Collegian Poll Finds U S Will Face War Soon

A Richmond College poll shows 96 percent expect U S involvement against Germany within two to three years. All favor aiding Allies with war production and 98 percent support expanding national defense. The group predicts Germany will challenge neutrality in two to three years.

Neff To Talk To Graduates At Richmond Commencement

Patt M. Neff president of Baylor University at Waco Texas and former Texas governor will deliver the commencement address at the University of Richmond June 11 ending the four day final exercises of the 108th session. More than 180 seniors expected to receive degrees.

College publication reshuffles editors in chief and staff

The Board of Publications announced new editors in chief and staff for the Messenger and Web along with college editions. Phylis Coghill and Ed Massie were named editors in chief, with Murry Barr and Jean Neasmith taking key editorships and business roles at Westhampton and the Collegian. Mary Erma Hinchman became Westhampton business manager of the Collegian, and other positions went to Norman Brown Simpson Williams E W McCaul and E W Isbell among others.

Keil Elected Head of Richmond College Honor Council

Bob Keil was chosen chair of the Richmond College Honor Council with John Locke as vice-chairman and Simpson Williams as secretary. The officers will serve in the 1940 41 session. Keil joined the council last year and Williams has been on the council since his freshman year. Locke is a recent appointee.
