Commencement Day Set for June 10 at Greek Theatre

The university schedules the ninety eighth Commencement for Tuesday June 10 at 7 30 PM in the Luther Jenkins Greek Theatre with Archibald Henderson UNC Chapel Hill as speaker. Dr Henderson will discuss dramatics and honors will be awarded after the address. Reverend James M Shelburne will deliver the baccalaureate sermon at 11 15 AM Sunday June 8 in the Cannon Memorial Chapel. Reverend V Carney Hargroves will speak at 7 PM June 8 in the Greek Theatre under Christian Associations auspices.

Univ. of Richmond Summer School Opens June 16

The University of Richmond announces its annual Summer School of Arts and Sciences from June 16 to August 15, 1930. Dr Frederick William Boatwright is president, with B West Tabb as vice president and treasurer. Other officers include William Loftin Prince director, Lucy Temple Throckmorton librarian, Helen A Mansell secretary, and biology Professor Robert F Smart will instruct.

Quiet Hour Authorized During Examination Period

G. Henricksen president of the Student Government Association has authorized a quiet period from 8 P M to 11 P M and from midnight to 8 A M Friday May 23 to Friday June 6. During this time victrolas and other musical instruments are not to be played and unnecessary noise around dormitories is prohibited.

Board of Publications Upholds Web Distribution Ruling

The Board of Publications Inc. of the University of Richmond upheld the staff action of The Web regarding Annual distribution. A meeting with a Richmond College student committee member reviewed the rulings and approved continuing the action.

Russ Whalen Elected New Philologian Head

Russell M. Whalen was elected president of the Philologian Literary Society for next year with John Cowley as vice president and Eugene Y. Willis Jr. as secretary. John D. Hooker had served as president this past semester as the society with about forty active members reflects on a successful year.

Loyal Spiders in High Spirits as Richmond Triumphs Over Ancient Rivals

University of Richmond students traveled to Williamsburg to see a game against William and Mary. Fans packed the stadium despite scattered W&M attendees and looming rain. The Spider band led by Mike Kent performed as Westhampton girls arrived to boost the crowd.

Richmond College to Hold First Campus Dance

Richmond University will host its initial campus dance Friday night June 6 from 9 to 12 in the Roger Milhiser Gym. Students from Richmond and Westhampton Colleges may invite friends approved by the faculty social committee. Tickets cost 1.25 dollars. The Interfraternity Council sponsors the event and pledges the dance requirements.

Adams Holds William and Mary as teammates spark win

The Spider baseball team defeated William and Mary 6 to 3 at Cary Field on Monday. The win ties the state champions and places Richmond second in the conference, with key early hits by McCormick Sherman and Lacy helping seize the lead in the fourth.

1930 31 R Handbook Set for Press Release

The 1930 31 R Handbook will go to press soon, editor J F Overton reports. The volume will be larger and differ somewhat from last year’s edition, which revived a pre 1921 tradition and aided freshmen and some upperclassmen.
