C D K Announces Spring Elections At University Of Richmond

C D K announces the spring elections for Omicron Delta Kappa at the University of Richmond. The national honorary fraternity plans to publicly announce at eleven o clock in chapel. Members are chosen from senior and junior classes for outstanding achievement in character scholarship athletics literary activity and campus leadership.

Richmond University Players Stage The Taming of the Shrew

The Richmond University Players announce The Taming of the Shrew as the 1927 commencement play to be held on June 4 on Richmond College campus. Previous commencements featured Shakespearean works including Merchant of Venice Twelfth Night and Romeo and Juliet.

Pi Delta Epsilon Initiates Members

Pi Delta Epsilon, national journalism fraternity, initiated five new members John W. Hash Fred W. Wenzel Martin S. Shockley Guy D. Mattox and James H. Gordon at a Clover Inn Richmond banquet. The Richmond chapter, installed last fall, held its first initiation. Local active members include F. N. Taylor R. B. Cheatham Emanuel Emroch M. P. Patteson and M. J. Logan.

Phi Alpha Wins Scholastic Cup for 1926 27

Phi Alpha earns the Pan-Hellenic Council scholastic cup for 1926 27 with an average of 85.10 percent. The cup will be awarded at Chapel on Wednesday May 18. Fraternities’ averages are listed led by Phi Alpha, with Lambda Chi Alpha second and Phi Delta Omega third. Professor H H Seay commends the fraternities on their scholarship, noting this is the first year that results are recorded.

State Oratorical Contest Set at Richmond College

Richmond College will host the annual State oratorical contest next year with W S Norman as secretary H H Seay as president and H B Handy as vice president. Preliminaries will be held early to prepare the winner for the May State Contest. At Randolph Macon College April 29 Lawrence H Hoover of Bridgewater won first honors with theme The Eternal Flame and Norman tied for fourth.

Richmond College Junior Class Plans Annual Hike

The Junior Class of Richmond College will hold its annual hike tomorrow May 14 meeting at Westhampton College at 5 30 with dates. The James river provides the scene for the event which is limited to juniors and their dates. Committee members include M S Shockley Joe Robinson and Guy Mattox. Participants must contribute fifty cents to the class treasurer or a committee member. The hike mirrors last year’s event.

Spring Elections On Campus Draw Attention And Ballots

On campus elections near with class officer races for next year and the Spring Athletic Association vote. Balloting will be held at the student shop from nine to three to select track tennis and baseball managers and assistants. Class meetings announce candidates led by Senior Class contenders for president and vice president with names including John W Kincheloe G A Barkey and R H Powell.

Regulations for swimming and canoeing at the lake

The Dean announces rules for lake use read at the Student Government meeting on May 9. Rules limit swim hours to 7:30 8:00 and 2:30 6:00 with a lifeguard on duty, require two in boats, and forbid after 8:00 PM weekdays and all Sunday use.

The Philologian Literary Society will elect officers for the Fall term next session in its nest Monday night at 7 15. The current administration insists every member attend the meeting.

The Westhampton College Glee Club performs tonight at 8 15 P M in the Red Cross building. Delegates to Attend Blue Ridge Conference Meeting

At a YMCA program last night delegates were urged to submit names for the Blue Ridge Conference to be held June 17 26. J W Kincheloe urged attendance and cabinet members will collect names. The program featured violin selections by W E Slaughter and Lloyd Caster, Elmer Potter Illusions, and a report by University delegates B N Denham and Lee Morrison on Camp Kent Virginia trip. Nine institutions were represented.

Westhampton Y. W. C. A. Induction of New Officers

Westhampton College YWCA held its annual installation Thursday evening. Old council and new council formed a candlelit semicircle in the amphitheater as scripture and prayer opened the ceremony. Miss Dorothy Knibb, outgoing president, lit the candle for Miss Margaret Chapin, the incoming president, after a short address.

Fourth South Atlantic track meet opens at Stadium Field

Eyes of the Southern Collegiate world focus on Stadium Field as the University of Richmond hosts the Fourth South Atlantic track meet under Frank M. Dobson. Sixteen colleges enter nearly three hundred athletes, with top runners expected to set new records tomorrow afternoon starting at 2:30. Virginia North Carolina and Maryland fans are traveling for the finals, expected to attract the region's best sprinters.

Pi Alpha Honors Five By Election At West Hampton College

Pi Alpha honorary society announced five new members at the regular chapel period. Elected were Sarah Cudd Margaret Willis Cecelia Hunt Elizabeth Taliaferro and Ruth Bishop. Willis named President Bishop Vice President and Taliaferro to a further post at the initiation ceremony and dinner.

Harlequin Club Dance at Japanese Garden May 21

The Harlequin Club plans a formal dance at the dancing pavilion in the Japanese Garden of C F Sauer on Saturday May 21 from 8 30 to 11 30. It is the final dance of the season before exams and is expected to be a big event with two bosses transporting couples to the venue.
