Finals Dances Feature New Decorations

Decorations for the Finals Dances on June 11 and 12 include a green and white scheme in Millhiser Gymnasium and a new 24 foot platform for George Hall and his orchestra with a dedicated 5 foot square for Loretta Lee and Barry Wells. Ticket price reduced from five to four dollars due to a favorable contract. fraternities must pay three dollars upfront to cover guarantees. George Hall plays June 7 and 8 at Woodberry Forest Academy and June 9 details follow.

Kilpatrick Second in State Oratorical Contest

Robert Kilpatrick of Richmond College won second place in the State Intercollegiate Oratorical Contest at Hampden-Sydney College. The winner was from Bridgewater College with Kilpatrick’s speech Murder, Incorporated drawing applause and only a slim margin from first. Judges included Attorney General Staples and Dr. Jarman.

Albright Honored by Academy of Science

Dr. CL Albright associate professor of physics at University of Richmond was elected chairman of the committee on astronomy mathematics and physics at the Virginia Academy of Science session at Harrisonburg State Teachers College. The May 3 4 1935 academy presidency passed to Dr William T Sanger of Medical College of Virginia with Dr Ida Sitler named president elect.

Moulton Delivers Finals Address And Commencement Plan

Dr. Harold Glenn Moulton president of Brookings Institution and noted economist will deliver the commencement address on June 12. The program also includes Westhampton alumnae events, a Shakespeare play, a Baccalaureate sermon by Dr Solon B Cousins, a trustees meeting, a water carnival with interfraternity finals, and the twentieth anniversary celebration of Westhampton College and Richmond College.

Plans for Orientation Program Being Made

Professor J C Holteclaw chairs the faculty personnel committee and announces rapid completion of next fall’s orientation plan. A Thursday meeting with the student orientation committee set the program under Dr Holzzclaw and President Richard Poage of the Student Government Association for campus leaders.

Johnston to Head University Players Next Season

Jaquelin Johnston was elected president of the University Players for next year at a Monday night meeting in the Trophy Room, succeeding Margaret Proctor. Betsy Cannon becomes vice president, George Allen secretary, and Frank Straus treasurer, with remarks on the club’s recent shows and the expected return of coach Emily Brown in the fall.

Mu Sigma Rho Elects Sam Bagby President

Mu Sigma Rho Literary Society installed new officers for the next semester at a Monday night meeting. Sam Bagby became president with Paul Watlington as vice president and Dorsey Ford as secretary, Parker Brown as treasurer, and E. S. Ridgway as representative to the Forensic Council. The outgoing slate included Hicks as president, George Harper as vice president, Ruffin Apperson as treasurer, and Ridgway remaining as Forensic Council representative.

Hopkins Professor to Speak Today on Algebra

Dr. Francis D. Murnaghan head of the Johns Hopkins Mathematics Department will lecture this afternoon to the science group on Some Elementary but Significant Aspects of Algebra. Born in Ireland, he earned degrees from the National University of Ireland and Johns Hopkins, came to Rice Institute in 1914, and became department head in 1928 after naturalization.

Class Officers Named in Clo Race Monday

In a fourte en candidate field of fifty two, four teen class officers were elected for 1934 35. Roger Leverton won senior class presidency by two votes 44 42 over Ed Norfleet. E S Ridgway beat Billy Ballou for vice president. Bruce Dodd claimed secretary treasurer. Junior class president John Higharrow won by six votes over Sidney Matthews and George Sanders. Wilbur Cook beat Younger Saunders and Bob Saville for vice president. Secretary William Hopson defeated Fred Timberlake. treasurer David Krapin and Willis Will tied for the post. Charles Ryland led juniors with 39 votes, defeating Stuart Conrad Barry Tenore and P Holland. Alfred Dickinson secured the senior class presidency. Continued on Page 3.
