C C K Chooses Two Members In Annual Spring Elections

At a Chapel Service Monday Omicron Delta Kappa announced two new members. Walton, a Richmond College junior and Web editor, serves as basketball manager and Junior class vice president. Herman, a Law School senior, is noted for debating and is a Tau Kappa Alpha member. The ceremony featured presentation of keys by G W Taylor.

Virginia Chemists Hold Successful University Meeting

The sixth annual Virginia Academy of Science meeting at the College of William and Mary drew large attendance. Eleven University of Richmond faculty, four former local faculty members, and numerous doctors and professors read papers. Senior Examinations Set to Start May 19

Senior exams will begin at 9:00 A M on Saturday May 19 under a faculty rule. Graduates in the regular May 30 group move to May 19, May 31 group to May 21, and June 1 group to May 22. the change lets Seniors finish early for any specials.

London editor Paul Hewitt Myring to speak at Richmond convocation

London Daily News editor Paul Hewitt Myring, holder of a Walter Hines Page Fellowship, will speak May 17 at a convocation in the Chapel Building of the University of Richmond under the English Speaking Union. He will be in Virginia May 16 19 and has a notable early career in journalism and the Grenadier Guards.

Local P D E Chapter Plans Banquet May 17

Thursday evening May 17 at 6:00 there will be a banquet at the University Club by the local Pi Delta Epsilon chapter. Speakers include John Archer Carter editor of the Richmond magazine and Professor W M Jones.

May Day Pageant At Westhampton College Delights Spectators

Spectators gathered at Dogwood Dell for Westhampton College May Day festival. A lively medieval procession brought the May Pole to the dell as three maidens danced to festive music. A poet-thief was later brought in for trial amid the day’s merriment.

Shakespeare at Blackstone High to Stage Merchant of Venice

The University of Richmond players tour presents The Merchant of Venice at Blackstone High School Auditorium in Blackstone Virginia tomorrow evening. Lydia Blatfield returns as Portia in her fifth performance with Nerissa played by Helen Harwood and Jessica by Louise Massey under Walter H Cheatham as sponsor.

Final Examinations Schedule Announced for Semester

Final examinations begin Wednesday morning May 23 and end Friday June 1 as announced by Dean W L Prince. Most exams occur in the morning with English ITS and Mathematics III relying on Thursday or Monday afternoons. senior exams start May 19.

Student Managers Elected for Baseball and Track

In the Spring Student Government elections held last Tuesday in the Student Shop David V. Buchanan and Herman B. Dixon were chosen student managers of baseball and track respectively. Jamie Scott and W. F. Carter were named assistant managers of baseball and track. Eligibility requires one year as assistant manager and coach approval.

Elect Officers Today for Class Positions on Campus

Annual elections of class officers occur this morning from 11:00 to 11:30 at venues set by class presidents and posted on campus boards. Officers will come from Collegian listed candidates per Student Government ruling, except treasurers for Senior and Sophomore classes elected from floor nominations due to no prior candidates.

Platt Wins Forensic Contest at Virginia State Oratorical

Harold M. Platt of Washington and Lee University won first place in the Virginia State Oratorical Contest held last Friday night with an oration on Who Is To Blame? He discussed political conditions and the Teapot Dome scandal. Second place went to Benjamin E. Chapman of Roanoke College with Our Priceless Heritage, third to C L Looney of Emory and Henry on Ambassador of Good Will. Norman of the University of Richmond spoke on The Master’s Voice.

The Philologian Literary Society annual debating contest last Monday night debated repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment. W. S. Norman spoke for the affirmative and was chosen as the best debater, marking his second society prize.

University of Richmond Plans June Commencement Week

The university announced commencement events led by Dr. Montague and Rev. R. Cary Montague. Baccalaureate Sermon by Rev. R. B. Jones at Baltimore’s University Baptist Church June 3. Vespers at 8:00 p.m. and Commencement Address by Robert Lee Kelley on June 5 at 11:00 a.m. The Commencement Play is set for Saturday June 2 at 8:30.

Tarheel Glee Club Wins Silver Cup at Mosque Theatre

The University of North Carolina Glee Club captured the silver loving cup in a contest with four Virginia colleges at the Mosque Theatre. Competing choirs included Virginia, William and Mary, Washington and Lee, and Richmond, each performing introductory pieces followed by a second selection from their repertoires.
