Jimmy DeVoe was elected speaker of the House over Joe Jones in a regular meeting at the Student Center conference room. Wilson Higgs won the clerk post and David McCants beat Allan Flannock for secretary as the chamber also advanced a pay raise for graders and lab assistants to one dollar per hour. About 1 000 visitors crowded Westhampton for May Day on Saturday May 4 with carnival booths in a rustic stockade and a Virginia Fantasia totem. The Band sponsored water bucket throw drew crowds while Pocahontas was reenacted and Studio Art showed modern paintings. Grace Bloxsom crowned queen at 4 00 pm. lantern parade. Hiawatha by Orchesis. Governor's Ball with 450 guests. Monday returned to normal as the weekend faded.
