Richmond Self Study Ends as SACS Panel Visits Campus
A seven member SACS visiting committee evaluated the University of Richmond during a four day campus visit from April 25. The self study, prepared over two years by university subcommittees, covers resources, programs, library, faculty, and facilities. The final report will be shared with faculty in late summer and remains confidential.

Virginia Academy of Science Hears Papers and Discusses New Techniques
The Virginia Academy of Science met at the John Marshall Hotel in Richmond with the Virginia Junior Academy cross listing final sessions. Some 800 to 2,000 scientists from academia and industry gathered as about 500 papers were read across eleven divisions including physics biology psychology mathematics and chemistry. University of Richmond faculty and student researchers presented multiple papers including a study on Positron Emission in the Decay of Chlorine conducted with partial American Institute of Physics funding.

Physicist Amuses Audience In Speech Here Tuesday
Doctor Samuel A. Goudsmith, a physicist known for electron spin work and the fourth quantum number, spoke at Richmond Hall last Tuesday. He mixed humor with observations on Fermi and Einstein, contrasted 1920s physicists with today, and urged professors to share what they do not know to spark student inquiry.

Alumni Day Attracts Nearly 500 Alumni This May
About 500 University alumni are expected for Alumni Day on Saturday May 15 with reunions for classes from 1915 to 1960. Activities include a pool swim and demo, luncheon, Spider William and Mary game, fraternity open houses, and a barbeque at 430 to 630 with 175 per head fee for barbeque. Registration starts 930 am on the student center green.

University of Richmond drives past goal in development campaign
The University of Richmond exceeded its 1.5 million dollar goal by finishing at 1,510,661 dollars in the development campaign. Ground will be broken soon for a fine arts building on Westhampton College campus costing over 650,000 dollars. The campaign funded a new men’s dormitory and University College facilities, with Edward A. Wayne calling the buildings symbols of devotion to private higher education. President Modlin thanked alumni and emphasized the close link between the University and the city of Richmond.
