May Day Festival Opens Tomorrow in Westhampton Dell

Westhampton's annual May Day Festival will be held tomorrow at five in Dogwood Dell. Queen of May Margaret Knight will lead the court with Elizabeth Taliaferro as maid of honor and a large Senior Class representation. Special dances are coached by Helen Moon and Trudie Ryland with Ruth Cox portraying Wilson.

Norman's Oration Wins Philologian Prize

In the Philologian Literary Society annual oratorical contest Norman W. S. won first place for “The Master's Voice” on the history and influence of oratory. Nevitt Sanford and William Penn Frazer followed in second and third. Judges were C. N. Warfield Relvix Harlan and W. B. Hackley. W. Lee Smith presided. next the debating contest will consider the question “Re.”

Commencement Play Tryouts Begin Soon

University Players cancel three one act plays set for May 12 in the Red Cross Building after a banquet and business session. Emily Brown directs dramatics and will post the chosen Commencement play early next week with tryouts at one. A Shakespearean option is likely for June, with Macbeth favored over The Merry Wives of Windsor.

Baron Heyking to Speak Here at Joint Club Meeting

The Richmond College and West Hampton College International Relations Clubs plan a joint meeting on Tuesday May 8 1928 at the Red Cross Building at 730 PM. Baron Alphonse Heyking of the University of Dorpat will speak on diplomatic and consular service and international law. He formerly served as Russian Consul General in London.

University Players Elect New Officers at Banquet

The University Players held a combined business session and social hour in the Cafeteria last Monday. Officers for the coming year were elected: Ruth Cox president, Donald Pierpont vice president, Albert Cosolaro secretary, Emily Schielinger treasurer. The annual dramatic keys were awarded and spring plays were discussed.

Virginia orators gather on campus for annual contest

W. S. Norman will represent University of Richmond in the thirty eighth Virginia State Oratorical Contest to be held in the Red Cross Building at 8:00 tonight. Representatives from nine Virginia colleges compete for the state oratorical honors.

Annual campus elections set for next Tuesday for baseball and track managers and assistant managers, with class elections for all three rising classes next Friday morning. Richmond Professors to Attend Virginia Academy Meeting

Many Richmond College representatives will attend the Virginia Academy of Science meeting at the College of William and Mary today and tomorrow. Dr Garner Ryland and Dr R E Loving will participate, with Ryland on the academy council and Loving on the prize committee. Drs Ryland, Astrop, and Cornthwaite will read papers on scientific work before the assembly.

Merchant of Venice to be staged by University Players

The Merchant of Venice will be presented May 12 at Blackstone High School auditorium by University Players led by Elmer Potter as Shylock and Lydia Hatfield as Portia. The group, guest of principal Walter H. Cheatham, will tour Leesburg and Lincoln prior to the Blackstone show with Donald Pierpont as art director and Morris Crawford handling lighting.

Glee Clubs Compete Tonight at Mosque in Richmond

Twenty singers from Richmond College join teams from Virginia and North Carolina in the first Glee Club Contest held in Richmond. Universities represented include Virginia, North Carolina, Wash ington and Lee, and William and Mary. A handsome loving cup is the grand prize, donated by the Richmond News Leader.

The Philologian Literary Society hosts an oratorical contest for Richmond College students on the subject In Appreciation of Woodrow Wilson. It will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday May 16 at 3 00 PM, with prizes 35 for first and 15 for second. Contestants must register at the Collegian by 6 00 PM Monday May 7.

Faculty Tennis Tournament at Richmond College ends tomorrow

The first Richmond College Faculty tennis tournament concludes tomorrow afternoon after a week of close matches among thirteen entrants directed by Dr. R. B. Harris and Professor T. M. Hart. Eight first round matches were held Monday through Wednesday with several byes, most contests played in Richmond as players chose their courts.
