Shirley Hill Attends Apple Festival Celebration

Shirley Hill, one of thirty-eight princesses, attends the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester representing Westhampton. The thirtieth annual event features preliminaries, receptions, a James Town themed pageant, coronation events, and today’s Apple Blossom Parade and Festival Ball. Miss Hill escorts are F. E. Bishop Jr. and she is a Homecoming princess and 1958 Senior class president.

Cheerleading tryouts are scheduled for Monday May 6 at 1 p.m. in front of Cannon Memorial Chapel. All interested students are urged to attend.

Grace Bloxsom Crowned Queen of the May in Hiawatha Pageant

Grace Bloxsom, a University cheerleader and Dean's List student, will be crowned Queen of the May after rehearsing in leotards for the Orchosis presentation of Hiawatha at the Greek Theatre. Joyce Garrett serves as maid of honor and court attendants include Marilyn Burkholder Lori Landers and others. Grace plans church work after graduation.

Westhampton Senior Wins Fulbright To German University

Mary Katherine Davis, president of Westhampton’s student government, earned a Fulbright to study at Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen Germany. A mathematics major with straight A’s and Phi Beta Kappa, she also serves in college government and Mortar Board, earning praise from professors for her leadership and scholarship.

Westhampton Girls Feature Old Stockade

Westhampton Virginia May Day festivities unfold with a Jamestown themed festival on the Green. Pocahontas puppet shows in North Court basement followed by coronation at the Greek Theatre and a Queen Grace Orchesis ballet. Governor’s Ball closes at Keller Hall Gym with refreshments.
