Westhampton College Elects Minor Officers for YWCA and Athletics

Westhampton College held elections for minor offices of the YWCA and Athletic Association on Monday March 24. YWCA officers named were Jean Moody vice president Nancy Curtis secretary and a tie for treasurer between Harriet Smith and Frances Robison prompting a revote. Athletic Association results included Mary Bowles vice president Ellen Largent secretary and Emily Deitrick treasurer. Next year’s cheerleaders and sport managers were also announced with Jane Dens leading cheerleaders Virginia Smith hockey manager Jane Sanford basketball manager Margaret Alexander track manager and Peggy Stone tennis manager for 1948.

Richmond College Debaters Compete at National Forensic Meet

The Richmond College debate team won two of three contests so far and will compete next week in three events at the Grand National Forensic Tournament held at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg on April 4, 6, and 8.

Richmond Defeats Virginia in Convocation Debate

The University of Richmond debate team beat the University of Virginia by unanimous decision during Convocation yesterday. Virginia speakers were Fred A. Dabney Jr and John E. Jenkins. Richmond's were John Chamberlayne and Kermit McKenzie. Judges were Reverends Byron Wilkinson and James H. Ivey of Richmond.

Dual meet with Davidson College and Princeton broadcast

A tentative April dual meet with Davidson College is planned. On Monday April 7 after the Grand National Tourney, a Princeton University match will be broadcast on WLEE at 8 00 p.m. and could be the season’s high point.

Bradley Student Party Proposal for College Constitution Revision

Walter L. Bradley chair of the Student Party outlines a proposed revision to Richmond College’s constitution as part of constructive critique. The plan suggests voter provisions, precinct ballots, sealed ballots, multi precinct counting, party oversight, and an Honor Council led tally with cross checks to supervise student elections.

Richmond College Swears In New Student Government Officers

Thad Crump succeeds Solon B. Cousins as president of the Student Government Association at Richmond College. Officers sworn by Larry Yoffy include Reid Spencer as VP, William Warren secretary, Martin Shotzberger treasurer, Joe La Luna Athletic Council rep, and four senators at large Warle Danford Dwight Anderson William Luck and Jim Suttenfield.

Harris Russell Win Oratorical Honors at Richmond College

Baine Harris of the 8 C Mitchell Literary Society won the first annual Oratorical Contest hosted by the Richmond College Forensic Council. Warren Russell Jr. was runner up with the topic Brotherhood Week. Other contestants included Harry L. Mears Albert Evans Jack Greene Dwight Anderson and Bill Gresham.

McDanel Heads National CDE

Dr. Ralph C. McDanel of the University of Richmond was elected president of Omicron Delta Kappa at the national meeting in Washington on March 20 21 and 22. He is the second Epsilon Circle member to receive the honor and gave a principal address eulogizing war dead.

University Carnival Set to Open at Eight Tonight

A campus carnival at the University of Richmond will open at eight o'clock in Millhiser Gymnasium to raise funds for furnishings for the Alumni Student Activities Building. Co sponsors include Omicron Delta Kappa and the Varsity Club. About 1000 to 1500 students are expected to attend with attractions from Theta Chi House of Horrors to a Ballet Faux Pas by Phi Delta Theta and performances by Westhampton College classes.
