La Marr Band to Play Here at Spring Hop

Frank La Marr and his orchestra, successors to Isham Jones at the Ambassador Hotel Grill in Atlantic City, N. C, will perform Saturday April 3 under Interfraternity Council sponsorship. The event aims to boost funds to lure Hal Kemp for Finals, with possible substitutes Jimmy Lunsford Benny Goodman or George Hall. Tickets at $1.50 date $1.10 stay. The dance runs 7:30 to 12 informal.

Sigma Phi Epsilon to Host Blanket Bid Dance on Campus

Sigma Phi Epsilon announces a blanket bid dance Friday April 9 at Millhiser Gym with Roy Dennis orchestra. A banquet at the Westmoreland Club precedes, attended by about forty to fifty alumni and chapter officers to be installed. Invited are members from George Washington, Washington and Lee, and the University of Virginia chapters.

Chem lecture links oxide build up to dull razors

Dr A I Whitenfish of chemistry spoke on Chemistry in the Home in the T C Williams Law School auditorium. He argued oxide coatings on razor blades form with use and can be removed by potassium chromate in shaving cream, and praised sodium metaphosphate in soaps as a water softener. The series began in 1891 and has moved from broadcasts on WRVA to four Saturday Faculty Interviews.

TKA Members Convene for April State Convention

Tau Kappa Alpha the forensics fraternity plans its state convention at Hampden Sydney on April 23 24 with a large Richmond chapter delegation led by president George Harper. The event will pair with the state oratorical contest and include tapping ceremonies after spring vacation at Richmond College.

Westhampton Forensic Team Ends Season In Debates

Westhampton debate team Ruth Stephenson and Arline Kramer closed a successful season with a northern trip including March 18 Bucknell and March 19 Trinity College in Washington. The Trinity debate ended in a victory for Westhampton, with judges impressed by Kramer’s rebuttal and suggesting a criminal law career. The season featured six debates beginning March 11 with Hampden-Sydney.

Avon Players Shine In Shakespeare double bill at Playhouse

A 350 crowd packed the Playhouse for The Merchant of Venice by the Avon Players, with 175 students and friends attending Othello that evening. Joseph Selman impressed as Shylock and Othello, Marta Kytle shared top honors, and George Colbert delighted as Launcelot Gobbo. Receipts cleared the guaranteed amount, praised by John Haw of University Players and Alton Williams for the joint venture.

Richmond Collegian names new editors in board plan

Stuart Graham Jr and Martha Lou Ellis of Richmond named Richmond College editor and Westhampton College editor for The Richmond Collegian to replace Bernard Dabney Jr and Ethel Eubank as resignations take effect. Graham, on the Collegian staff since 1934, and Ellis, twice a reporter, will lead with one chosen as editor in chief later in the semester.

Hospitality Week Set For Westhampton College Seniors

On April 9 10 and 11 the Senior Class of Westhampton College will sponsor a Hospitality Week End for high school seniors. Fifty visiting girls will be entertained in the dormitory under Margaret Harrie director with events from a puppet show to campus tours and a Richmond outing.
