Florence Gray Elected Westhampton College Government Leader

Florence Gray a junior from Waverly defeated Kitty Wyatt of Danville to become president of the College Government Association at Westhampton College. Other officers include Ellen Sargent treasurer Paula Abernathy secretary and dormitory and class leaders across the student body.

Rutgers Richmond Debate Broadcast on WLEE April 3

WLEE will air the Rutgers versus Richmond debate on April 3 from 4 30 to 5 p m. The telecast covers the April 1 contest with the Richmond team of Graham and Harvey taking the affirmative.

Richmond College Band Concert Aids Uniform Fund

The University of Richmond Band plans its first campus concert on April 15 in the Greek Theater to raise money for band uniforms. Ticket sales start at Millhiser Field during the Intra-Squad game with student tickets at 50 cents and general admission at one dollar. Fraternities have pledged support by buying tickets for members.

VA Implementing Automatic Leave for GI Bill Students

VA will assign 15 days of leave to veterans in colleges and universities under the GI Bill unless they notify the Veterans Administration within 30 days before term end. Veterans on leave receive subsistence payments for the 15 days, and their government funded training period is reduced by 15 days.

Four room suite and student lounge at Richmond Professional Institute

A BR report highlights a three room suite in the Administration Building at 901 W Franklin St for student gatherings, bridge games, study and snacking. Additional quiet study room is in the Library Building with sofas, chairs and a pond view. On the first floor the front hall hosts ticket sales, yearbook subscriptions and student elections.

Milos Strupa Discusses Czechoslovakia at IR Club

Milos Strupa a Charles University graduate spoke at a Richmond College and West Hampton College International Relations Club meeting on March 17. He argued the recent government change in Czechoslovakia stemmed from internal Communist Party factors and warned of a potential UN inquiry as Czechoslovakia moves behind the iron curtain. He outlined conditions from World War I to the upheaval and noted planned talks by Dr. Pitman Potter and Dr. Wilbur Fox on April 6 and 9.

Shutterbugs Plan Salon For University Exhibit

The University Camera Club will sponsor the first University of Richmond Photographic Salon Exhibition in the Library during May 3 to 7. A rules committee is forming divisions and will publish guidelines later. Entry is open to undergraduates and graduates, with judges from news, commercial, and landscape photography. A dark room is being prepared in the Playhouse for entrants and club members.

UK Debaters to Compete in State TKA Meet at Bridgewater

Four UK debaters Mrs Betty Graham John Chamberlayne Neil Cline and Charles Harvey will take part in the State Tau Kappa Alpha forensic tournament at Bridgewater today defending Virginia teams’ title. The Richmond squad seeks to avenge defeats and keep the State championship.

Evening School Dance Set for April 2 at Hotel Jefferson

The University Evening School of Business Administration opens a Spring Dance from 9 30 p m to 1 00 a m at the Hotel Jefferson on April 2. All university divisions invited. Richmond College students can buy tickets for 2 50 stag or drag at the Student Shop. Dick Radford and his orchestra provide the music. Formal or informal dress is optional.

Nine Westhampton students join Mortar Board

Miss Pauline Turnbull and nine students were tapped for Mortar Board at Cannon Memorial Chapel. Catherine Wyatt led the group as president designate, with honorees including Florence Crute, Jane Sanford, Betty Ann Allen, Mitzi Verra, Caroline Bonham, Rosamond Calhoun, Florance Gray, and Peggy Harris.

Choir Concert Closes World Student Service Fund Drive

A Virginia Union University choir concert at Memorial Chapel in Can on tonight at 8 15 closes the five week World Student Service Fund drive on the Richmond College campus. The event aims to raise 1000 for the rehabilitation and relief of needy foreign students with tickets 55 cents at the door.
