Plans underway for the inaugural ceremonies of elected student officers on April 6 at the Student Government meeting at 1 o clock. Retiring and incoming officers will give speeches and exchange the keys, with Harold F Snead and Kennon Walden organizing the event.
Sixty nine students are listed on the February roll of honor announced by Dean W L Prince. John A Tatum reads the list with six A grades while J M Snelling L Jones and W S Chappell each earn five A grades.
John Wicker of Richmond headlined the Pi Kappa Sigma event at the Y M C A last night. The program pleased attendees and election of officers followed, with Kappa Sigma set to lead the first meeting after vacation.
The Richmond Collegian will not publish next week ahead of exams and spring vacation. The first spring term issue appears April 10. Newly elected Collegian officers assume management with this issue.
The Richmond University Players staged South Sea Dust last Saturday in the Red Cross Building. Miss Emily Brown directed the production with polished coaching. costumes were organized by a committee led by Misses Margaret Taylor and Harlan. Scenery by Meyer Mahaney and Marian Marsh.
The Philologian Literary Society closed its winter term with a meeting on Monday night. A proposal to meet March 30 was rejected and the group will reconvene April 6 at the usual hour. The program featured I F H Pruden on current events, a Poindexter reading, Ferguson's declamation To a Sky Lark, and a debate on the Westhampton Richmond topic. Saunders offered strong preparation on Mark Antony versus Cleopatra. G A Wilkins and N R Green were elected to the Debating and Forensic Council.
The Marionettes stage a two performance program today and tonight drawing a large crowd to the auditorium. The review recalls famed literary birds and notes the parrot steals scenes in Stevenson and Treasure Island granting humor and charm to the show.
At a Monday night meeting in Dean W. L. Prince’s home, Omnicon Delta Kappa discussed erecting a bulletin board near the Administration Building entrance. Other larger improvement ideas were considered but not adopted.
The Richmond Whilatelic Society formed by local students at the start of term aligns with a national philatelic body. Led by Robert Schneider the nine charter members and two initiates, with six more likely to join, are close to finalizing the affiliation as Julian D. Martin handles the correspondence.
Johns Hopkins debaters won a two to one decision against the University of Richmond team at John Marshall High School Auditorium last Friday night. Hopkins defended the negative on the Child Labor Amendment question, arguing states rights and local government handling.
Plans materialize for the Mu Sigma Rho Banquet to be held on April 6 at eight oclock in Hotel Richmond. The organizing committee led by W H Atkins Chester Swanson and W F Cuthriell promises a gala event with speeches by incoming and outgoing presidents music and humorous numbers.
Dr. S. C. Mitchell spoke to Richmond YWCA members on “Whither Labor Leads” detailing organized labor's role in international relations and its contribution to world peace.
Four seniors and four juniors were awarded eight gold keys by the Richmond University Mayers club for their acting, costumes, and set work with the University Players. Emily Brown and Prof. C L Dodds also received keys by club vote.
Fifty four new volumes added to the library shelves include fiction biographies autobiographies orations and works by notable authors of the day. Titles listed include The White Monkey The Ivory Tower The Golden Bowl The Wings of the Dove The Home Maker Linda Condon Tante Alexander Bridge Faint Perfume The Slave Ship Old English among others.
Dr. Miller of the Medical College of Virginia spoke to advanced biology classes at the University on microscopic study and bacteriophase research. The talk was part of a series arranged by Professor H. E. Hayden to expose students to science topics beyond standard coursework.
