Navy Puts UK On Select List For V-12 Training
The Navy announced the University of Richmond on a supplementary list of non federal colleges eligible for war training under the V-12 program. Richmond College officials expect a contract with the Navy and plan to blend classes with Westhampton if needed. Dean Holtzclaw notes about 860 students remain, with ~100 more potential recruits if July calls proceed, and facilities could shift to dormitory sharing or fraternity houses to accommodate V-12 students.

Westhampton Mortar Board tapped six new members at Cannon Memorial Chapel on Monday night. Tapped alphabetically, the initiates include Billy Jane Crosby Kath erine Hanley Doris Hedgepeth Frances Kennard Rita Muldowney and Betsy Rice with Miss Rice set to serve as president. Shirley Huxter officiated and Alma Mater was represented as the flame passed from the candle to the new members amid a tea hosted by sponsors and faculty.

Kay Hanley of Washington, D C was elected President over Betsy Rice of Richmond with other officers including Evermond Hardee of Florence as Athletic Association president and Ann McElroy of Richmond as YWCA leader. Former University of Richmond guard Lt Paul Stanch of the Air Corps downed three Jap Zeros in the Bismarck Sea near New Guinea. He reports fending off five attackers solo, then bagging a second Zero in flames after running out of ammo.
