Randolph Macon Defeats Jackets In Tight Championship Game

Randolph Macon secured a 23 to 19 victory over the Yellow Jackets in a hard fought basketball clash last Wednesday night. Captain Wood returned to bolster the Spiders but injuries and early miscues limited their rhythm as Tyson and Robinson led the Jackets in scoring and defense. Butterworth and Waters delivered key late shots to seal the win for Randolph Macon.

Leonard Stubbard wins first prize while R F Caverles takes second and the athletic prize. On Wednesday night the body of John Birleycoat was exhumed and described with violent details as part of a sensational oratorical contest pageantry in an auditorium.

Wood Heads Spider Quint in Team Election Night

Wiley W. Wood was chosen captain of the SHIR basketball team for the second time as Coach Dobson and Mrs. Dobson hosted an eighthanper at Murphy's Hotel. Tyonn nominated Wood praising his unselfish play and leadership. Wood, from Richmond College, led the team with sixteen field goals and twenty-one total goals before an injury sidelined him against Norfolk State. The gathering celebrated the victory and camaraderie as the team shared a hearty dinner with Coach and Mrs. Dobson and several players.

Dr Wightman Hosts Joyous West Hampton Party

Dr. Wightman entertained at West Hampton with a ten o’clock party. Guests abandoned study to gather in the dining room where solo performances followed by plentiful sandwiches and blue dress waitresses preceded a lively dance featuring a Spanish number. The evening ended with cheers for "Pinkie."

Randolph Macon Wins Inter Collegiate Debate

Randolph Macon defeated Richmond College and William and Mary in a triangular debate held at Richmond College auditorium. Judges included Deans and the Virginia House delegate, with Macon winning on both sides of the question universal military training.
