Honors Convocation to Feature Clarence Little Speech

The Richmond area honors convocation Monday will include biologist Clarence Little delivering Can a Scientific Spirit Save Democracy? The ceremony also honors top students from Richmond and Westhampton Colleges, with Phi Beta Kappa inductees and recognitions for members of OmegON Delta Kappa Phi Delta Epsilon Tau Kappa Alpha Alpha Mu Omicron and the Phoenix Club for biology and social science excellence.

Noted Scholar Dr Little to Address Sigma Pi Sigma Event

Picture on page 3 shows Sigma Pi Sigma physics fraternity and Chemistry Club to be recognized from the platform. Rabbi Calish will give the invocation. President Boatwright will introduce Dr Little for his address. Dr Little is a renowned biologist and geneticist and expert in conservative pathology. He earned an A B from Harvard and advanced degrees S M and Sc D. He holds Doctor of Laws from several colleges and a Doctor of Letters from Maine. He heads Roscoe B Jackson Memorial Laboratory and serves as managing director of the American Society for the Control of Cancer.

Bob Riley To Play At Senior Spring Formal

Richmond College announces the Senior Spring Formal featuring Bob Riley and his orchestra from Winchester Virginia. The event on March 17 follows a St Patrick theme with two tone green decorations and tickets at 1.00 before the door rise to 1.10 and 1.25.

NYA Announces Citizenship Affidavit Requirement

The Treasury office requires NYA employees to file affidavits proving United States citizenship. Those who fail to submit by March 1 will not receive government pay. Mr. Stone, a Notary Public, will attest certificates. submissions may be left with him. The rule affects all WPA employees including NYA workers.

Orators Meet Next Thursday at Richmond College

Three Richmond College literary societies will stage the annual Intersociety Oratorical Contest next Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in the physics lecture room. Each society will field one speaker. The winner receives "The Life of Franklin" by Van Buren, a gift from librarian Miss Lucy T. Throckmorton, presented by News Leader book reviewer Beverly Britton. Topics are chosen by contestants and ten minutes are allowed per speech. Jurors will be announced later by the Forensic Council. The event is separate from the Campus Oratorical Contest set for March 13 and 14.

Bricks Campaign Seeks Alumni Gifts for College Building

Ten students mailed 4000 letters urging alumni to donate bricks for a new Student Activities building at Richmond College. They seek 80 000 bricks at 3.00 each, with green checks attached, as the Alumni Council raises 88 000 to add to the 12 000 already in hand for the project.

UR Thespians to Present Squaring the Circle Play

University Players of the University of Richmond stage Kataev’s Russian satire Squaring the Circle at the campus Playhouse next Friday at 8 30 P M. Cast includes Ludmilla played by Carolyn Gary Abram by George Shackleford Tonya Hen rietta Sadler Vas ya Tivis Wicker Emilian Lyn Price Rabinovitch Julian Feldman Novikoko Carlson Thomas Bassova Ellie Terretta and more. Production staff features Salvatore Casale William Maner Charles Booth Ellen Warner Florence LaFoon Eugene Cornwell Jessie McElroy Mary Sue Carter Roy Newton and Philip Cooke. The Moscow Art Theatre premiered the work in Moscow and it has played in London and New York.

Cranford To Talk At Chapel Today

The Rev. Clarence W. Cranford of the Second Baptist Church of Richmond will speak at the University Convocation today at 12 80 p m. He lectured during Religious Emphasis Week last year and has spoken at the University this year. He previously led Logan Baptist Church in Philadelphia and earned a B A from Bucknell in 1929 plus a Bachelor of Divinity from Crozer Seminary in 1932, having served as vice-president of the Northern Baptist Convention in 1936.

Stoneburner ReMine Run For President In Student Govt Race

Eighteen candidates from Cooperative and Progressive parties seek the Richmond College Student Government presidency and other offices in a vote next Tuesday. Stoneburner and ReMine lead the presidential slate with Hobgood and Bragg for VP, while Saunier vs Van Leeuwen for secretary and Merrick vs Van Buskirk for Athletic Council.
