Students at the University of Richmond begin a four day relief drive to aid Europe and Asia. Thirty four solicitors will collect pledges for Near East Relief and famine relief in China with funds due by March 1 1921.
The Law School organized a debating society on January 20 to develop eloquence as a key skill for lawyers. Despite earlier discussions the plan was often dropped, but that night the move gained momentum and strong interest from the university community.
Richmond alumnus Julien Gunn enters Virginia race for Lieutenant Governor amid party tensions. The announcement signals continued political ambitions among members of the student body and alumni networks, with coverage noting unresolved party dynamics and implications for the upcoming campaign season.
The calendar lists Rat Banquet and European Relief Drive starting events on Friday January 23. It notes Spiders versus Yellow Jackets game January 29 at Ashland and various meetings at the Red Cross Building and the law school. Weeks run with Sunday services and Vespers at the Red Cross Building. The Rat Banquet is openly announced this year with no secrecy due to hazing rules. A special car will depart campus at 6 00 p m to take the freshmen over the lake to meet their dates and attend the banquet at 7 30 p m followed by short talks by officers.
Editors from The Messenger at Richmond and Westhampton College discuss improving the literary magazine. Changes planned for the February issue are announced and a Writers' Club formation is proposed to focus on literary articles rather than news reporting.
Richmond University’s Red and Blue basketball squad closed its up State trip last Saturday with losses to Virginia and the Elk’s Club of Lynchburg after an impressive showing against tougher competition. Ziegler and Mottley starred, outguessing Virginia’s guard and scoring two field goals each. The trip began in Charlottesville with a 33 to 15 defeat, the lowest Virginia score of the season to that point.
The faculty committee selects one-third of the current Senior Class for membership based on all round participation and academic standing. Named members include Mare Collins Katherine Spicer Theresa Pollak Leonora Dorsey Mildred Rucker Ruth Hoover and Ruth Henderson with more to be announced.
