University alumni return to Dennis Auditorium for a four program winter series. Guy Friddell discusses The State of the State of Virginia on January 28. Paul Duke speaks February 10 on Washington politics. Margaret Rudd presents a 2,300 mile Chilean study on February 25. Dylan Thomas play Under Milk Wood closes the series on March 10 by The University Players.

Albeniz biopic screens in physics lecture room

A Spanish film about composer conductor Isaac Albeniz titled Albeniz will be shown February 5 at 3:30 and 7:40 PM in the physics lecture room. The biography follows his early bars and near poverty in South America, his yellow fever ordeal, and his rise to fame with the Iberia Suite performed by guitar piano and orchestra.

Jarrett Recital Rescheduled for January 19

Editor Resigns From University Messenger Board Action

A. D. Hopkins resigns as editor of the Messenger after a board meeting and an official statement citing conflict over literary freedom and use of profanity. The board asserts policy prohibits profanity and obscenity while Hopkins and supporters argue editorial freedom differs from board limits.

Rochester Optics Professor Givens To Visit Richmond

Professor M Parker Givens of the University of Rochester will visit the University of Richmond February 3 4 as a visiting lecturer under the American Association of Physics Teachers and the American Institute of Physics. The NSFs support and Richmond arrangements are led by Professor Leonard M Diana. He earned a 1937 Richmond degree and a 1949 PhD from Cornell. He has taught at Penn State and Rochester and serves as Institute of Optics’ assistant director.

Beacon Press Exec Defends Messenger Printing Process

University of Richmond Alumna Plans Recital__

Miss Suzanne Kidd, a university organ instructor, will present an eight oclock recital in the chapel on Monday night February 3. The program spans baroque to romantic periods and includes Haydn Bach Mendelssohn pieces with a finale from Bach. Kidd holds a BA from Richmond and an MA from Michigan and studied with Hans Volenwelder in Zurich.
