Y M C A programs for six weeks shift to discussion groups led by R B Willingham. Six groups meet in fraternity houses Thomas Hall Jeter Hall and the Y M C A building with students from campus organizations. Members will join in general discussion on applying Christian religion to campus problems.
The combined freshman classes of Richmond and Westhampton College schedule their annual banquet for Friday evening February 12. I K Ritter president of the first year men states the event may be at the Winter Garden Richmond Hotel. An introduction party to foster class ties will follow, possibly in Millhiser gym. The class dues levy of twenty cents per member was approved to fund the event.
Professor J S Dodds of Town State College travels to the local campus for the weekend to visit his brother, Professor C L Dodds, head of the French department, during a campus visit.
University of Richmond athletic director Coach Ff. M. Dobson will speak at chapel today. He will discuss topics likely related to tonight's game versus William and Mary and may reveal insights on the team. An indoor track call for candidates was issued last Tuesday as Dobson spoke on track and relay meets.
At a meeting of the General Society of Alumni of the University of Richmond officers were installed George Bryan of Richmond as president. H. T. Harriss Jr of Lynchburg and J. Vaughan Gary of Richmond will serve as vice presidents with Dean W. L. Prince as treasurer and H. B. Handy as secretary. The executive committee includes H. Harriss Jr, Jos A Leslie Jr, and J. Howard Gore.
Fraternity initiation on the local campus will be conducted by secret societies over the next two weeks. Initiation dates include Kappa Alpha January 13, Kappa Sigma February 1, Pi Kappa Alpha January 13, Lambda Chi Alpha January 25, Sigma Phi Epsilon January 23, and Phi Delta Omega January 22 and 23. Phi Kappa Sigma initiation was held January 9.
Dr. F W Boatwright announces a campaign to raise 2 million dollars for University of Richmond expansion. Alumni are asked for a minimum gift of 125 dollars, with 500 thousand targeted from local alumni. The drive will begin next month and use committees across departments to manage extensive Maryland outreach.
The Tower at Westhampton College is being prepared for press as club pictures redone after Christmas. Senior write-ups are nearly finished with high hopes they will surpass prior years, reflecting sincerity over flattery in this year's features.
The Westhampton College Writers' Club, nine members led by President Marian Marsh, plans a meeting with Sigma Upsilon at Katherine Spicer's Richmond home next Tuesday evening. Prominent authors will read from their works to offer ideas and critique.
The Student Government Association minstrel show Spider Frolics will be staged at the Red Cross building in Westhampton on Friday evening February 5. C H Robinson and R N Sibold co directors with J Chester Swanson directing music. The program will include Broadway songs and parodies with new stage curtains and planned scenic effects.
Statistics show 63 University of Richmond students on the honor roll for the fall term. C R Brown O A Lundin and J M Snelling head the list with A grades amid favorable comparisons to past terms.
Westhampton seniors will no longer wear cap and gown daily. They will appear in academic array on Mondays and Wednesdays only. Skipping these days will count as a full chapel cut, as the dress-up burden prompted the chapel committee to grant the concession.
The Westhampton Glee Club will air a one hour radio concert on WRVA at nine o clock. It features choruses by the club and vocal solos by Miss Florence Booker along with violin pieces by Miss Margaret Barker. President Miss Alice Taylor organized rehearsals for this first radio performance.
The Ministerial Association of the University of Richmond plans its annual banquet for Friday January 29 at a Richmond hotel. It aims to be a University of Richmond affair with Westhampton girls invited to attend. A program will feature speeches by noted Richmond churchmen and association members.
