At 8 o clock tonight in the Westhampton Red Cross Building the first minstrel show since the university moved from the old campus will open. The Richmond Glee Club and about thirty performers led by the Richmond College Orchestra promise a lively program with jokes songs stunts and more for a night of top entertainment.
Dr Len G Broughton famed preacher of Grove Avenue Baptist Church will address University students with Westhampton College joining. The Y M C A plans a large Chapel gathering as the program promises to be one of its finest in its history with additional features.
Glee Club Minstrel Friday at 8 00 P M in Westhampton Red Cross Building. Saturday sees University of Richmond versus Medical College of Virginia at U W VA. Various services and meetings fill Sunday through Thursday with debates trip and speaker Dr Len G Broughton at the Y M C A.
Changes to the rushing season set start at 10 P M Tuesday January 18 and run through midnight Sunday January 24. No fraternity member may discuss fraternity affairs with a prospective initiate from Sunday midnight to 6 P M the following day. If a bid is accepted the pledge may wear the fraternity button and is bound by the same rules as a initiated member.
Richmond and Westhampton Colleges Dramatic Clubs resume after holidays and plan to stage The Prime Secretary in Ginter Park School auditorium on Friday January 22. An organization assists with staging and a large audience is expected.
The Medical College of Virginia will face the Spiders in the season’s second basketball game. It is set for 8 15 at the YMCA on Fifth Street with strong local support expected. The Spiders, coached by Dobson, aim to rebound after a loss to Merchants National Bank last Saturday.
On Tuesday night January 18 preliminaries for the intercollegiate forensic contest begin at 7 15 in the Richmond College auditorium. Twenty students signed up with R F Edwards secretary of the Debating and Forensic Council. All are members of literary societies except two. Five freshmen are listed among entrants.
Dr. R. E. Gaines reports the fall term of 1920 at Richmond College as highly successful with increased enrollment and a higher pass rate. Freshmen show 50 percent passing all subjects among 150 men, while few fail more than half the work, notes W. L. Prince.
Westhampton College seniors and sophomores gathered in the Red Cross Building for the Class of 23 birthday celebration. The room resembled an old English inn lit by fires and candles with a Canterbury Pilgrims skit and a barmaid service of ale fruit salad and sandwiches. The seniors gave a large birthday cake to the sophomores and the sophomores serenaded and presented Miss Elizabeth Gaines with red and white roses.
