UM Richmond Students, Faculty Tapped by Honor Societies
Sixteen University of Richmond students plus one faculty member were inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa Epsilon Pi Delta Epsilon and Tau Kappa Alpha. Recipients include Joel Harnett Richmond Phillip Hart and Julian Pentecost with Prof Herman P Thomas honored by ODK. PDE honors campus journalists for two years on publications. TKA welcomed four Richmond College students led by Joel Harnett and James Worrell.

Franklin Lectures On Christ Portraits At Chapel
Dr. Franklin spoke to the chapel on January 8 citing artists who painted Christ. He shared a study portrait by an aged artist devoted to one image and said Christ’s look is unknowable, only portraits of virtue and suffering. He argued laypeople can portray Christ by living like the Nazareth figure.

Fraternities and non members plan secretive party lines named Liberals and Progressives after a January 10 Student Government meeting. Greek-letter groups split evenly, with non-fraternity students deciding which side to back. Liberals: Theta Chi Sigma Phi Epsilon Phi Delta Theta Pi Kappa Alpha. Progressives: Phi Gamma Delta Sigma Alpha Epsilon Kappa Sigma Kappa Alpha.

The Beta Beta Beta honorary biological fraternity votes to include Navy V-12 students who meet requirements as candidates for membership. The chapter, based in the Biology Building, recognizes biology majors and minors with at least two years of biological work and a high average.

Fuchs and Rufty Recital At WC Draws Large Monday Audience
A large audience packed the Student Activities Building Monday night January 8 to hear original compositions by Henry H. Fuchs and Hilton Rufty. Fuchs opened with three violin melodies Serenade Reverie and Poem, accompanied by Rusty. Rufty performed Pavane and Galliard Intermezzo and Bonnie Wee Thing then English folk songs Henry Martin The Holly and The Ivy and The Helston Furry Dance. The program closed with Fuchs Concerto in D Major for violin. Dr Richman who was to sing two of Rusty s ballad settings could not attend due to an unexpected out of town call.

Westhanton Junior Class Raffles War Bonds
The Westhanton College Junior Class conducted a January 10 raffle after a Student Government meeting. Barbara Rock Pat Husbands and Betty Aherne won the three war bonds from 1,200 chances sold. Proceeds buy bonds and subscriptions for McGuire General Hospital soldiers.
