Second Fraternity Off Campus Party Leads to Closure
Sigma Phi Epsilon became the second University fraternity in a month to be kicked off campus after an off campus party on December 3 attended by about 15 members and five couples. The party violated social probation restrictions banning events with women guests. The university ordered SPE to suspend activities and lock the lodge until June 5, with a possible return on Sept. 11 contingent on good behavior and a corrective plan.

Portraits by Founding Fathers Damaged in Campus Flood
Basements at the university flooded two summers ago damaging approximately 50 portraits stored in the refectory area during 1965 expansion work. J D Clark says restoration will be very expensive and gradual, with a Richmond firm handling the work and no clear timeline for completion or reinstalling in the refectory.

University to poll students rating faculty teaching
Richmond College House of Representatives plans a faculty survey next week pending approval. Robie Baldwin says eleven questions will assess enthusiasm sympathy partiality openness curriculum workload testing adequacy and overall effectiveness. Results may be printed in the college newspaper or distributed in booklets to campus locations.

WC French Professor Succumbs After Illness
Miss Mary Cecelia Gotaas former French professor at Westhampton College died last Friday after a long illness. Born 1907 in Mellete Maryland she earned a doctorate from Catholic University and taught widely in schools and colleges before joining Westhampton in 1955. Her work included co authoring the textbook Actualités and research on contemporary French theater. Funeral services were held at Arlington National Cemetery with tribute from students and faculty.

Broken into Fraternity Lodges on Old Fraternity Row
Four fraternity lodges Lambda Chi Alpha Sigma Chi Pi Kappa Alpha and Phi Gamma Delta were broken into over the holiday. Lambda Chi suffered the heaviest damage with a glass ring and $16 stolen. Other lodges showed vandalism but few details are clear and no arrests reported.

Committee Acts But President Won’t Answer
The RG Junior Glass resolution to abolish the university non drinking policy was presented to the Executive Committee at its December meeting. Dr. George M. Modlin, president, said the committee acted but refused to comment on any action, citing it would be announced in due time. No reason was given for withholding the decision. A similar proposal was endorsed by the ColLegian in its Nov 18 editorial.
