The campus prepares for a restrained student government election in the Faculty Room Tuesday from nine to three. Candidates must submit names to M S Shockley secretary by noon tomorrow. Handshaking will be forbidden during voting hours.
Miss Alberta Powell soprano will perform March 4 in the Red Cross building Westhampton. She is aided by cellist Madame Satcha Tillica and pianist Moyra McClausland. This concert is the second in a three event series by the Ministerial Association of Richmond College.
Dr. C Mitchell spoke on The Trend of the Countries of the Orient before Petersburg YMCA members last Tuesday evening. He outlined the present state of affairs in China in an interesting manner.
Spring term figures 1925 26 show Sigma Phi Epsilon top the fraternity standings with 85.71 percent. Several groups follow including Phi Delta Omega 84.53 percent and Phi Sigma Alpha 84.24 percent, Lambda Chi Alpha 83.54 percent, and Kappa Sigma 80.90 percent.
An open forum on racial relationships scheduled for last night has been postponed to Thursday evening of next week. The series, led by Dr. Harlan Dr. Gaines and Prof Handy, will cover relations among races in the South foreigners in China and Americans abroad.
In a chapel audience of nearly all students, Richmond College debaters Harry M. Herman and T. Eugene West beat Carson-Newman by a 2 to 1 decision. Judge and spectators noted White Parks as strong for Carson-Newman. White’s delivery impressed many observers.
Dean W. L. Prince, Richmond College alumnus and Kappa Sigma member, was elected national president of Omicron Delta Kappa at the seventh biennial convention at the University of Virginia. Prince, class of 1898, has long been active in the organization, having joined ODK in 1921 and serving on the council since 1925. The ODK council governs the fraternity and consists of five members at large.
The Messenger reminds University of Richmond students that all short story manuscripts must reach a staff member by Tuesday March 1. After the deadline judges will select the winners whose stories will appear in the April Messenger and winners announced in that issue.
The University of Richmond News Service received a formal invitation to join the American Association of College News Bureaus, which includes about 150 colleges such as Yale Purdue Nebraska Kansas and Ohio State. The group holds a three day annual convention to discuss publicity issues, extended by Prof. M. W. Brown the secretary treasurer.
Westhampton College basketball team faces George Washington University in the Red Cross Building arena. Tip off is at eight o’clock as the annual rivalry renews after last year’s Capitol City defeat.
At a regular meeting the Student Government Association voted to amend the constitution to elect the Editor-in-Chief and Business Manager of the Spider section of the Web by popular vote. Candidates must be approved by the outgoing staff and the Senate and must be members of the incoming Senior Class. Elections will be held Tuesday in the faculty room from nine to three. candidates due by Saturday at noon. Officers include President, VP, secretary, treasurer, four senators at large, football and basketball managers, and publication staff officers.
The annual summer session at the University of Richmond will start June 13 and run six weeks, ending July 24. College courses will be offered by college professors with emphasis on Physics Chemistry and Biology to help pre med students, teachers, and degree seekers.
Virginia students arrive for the annual inter scholastic declamation contest at Richmond College Auditorium at 3 PM. Judges include Dr. R C McDanel J A Carter G Edmond Massie and H B Handy chair. Prizes of 15 10 and 5 in gold awarded to top three. music by Spider Chan.
The Senior Classes of Richmond and Westhampton Colleges plan Shenandoah to be performed at a Richmond theatre on April 8. Tryouts occurred with a provisional cast awaiting Miss Brown’s approval on her return. The play, set in a romance infused American past, follows northern and southern couples amid conflict. Committees include Leslie L. Jones as executive chair.
Last Sunday afternoon alumni of the Kappa Sigma chapter and the fraters' parents attended a tea at the fraternity house. Mrs. Prince Mrs. Sprinkel and Mrs. Hillsman presided and served as hostesses. The event was described as a complete success and a delightful time for all.
