Charles Elwood Seal of Highland Springs High School captured the opening round of the University of Richmond WRVA Radio Scholarship Quiz earning 350 dollars. Cynthia Cole and Robert Johnson each won 150 dollars tuition scholarships. The event continues with nine first round broadcasts and a final for 1000 dollars.

Betty Jean Stamps a Westhampton freshman wins a National Girl Scout Kasay Contest prize a 56 day trip to Europe to attend an international Girl Scout Conference in Switzerland. She has held multiple leadership roles in Girl Scouts including troop president and planning board member and has competed in rifle and marching activities in high school. Her prize includes sailing aboard the United States in July.
