After a 60 to 13 defeat by Westhampton, Westhampton and Sweet Briar prepare for a major home game under the Red Cross banner. Last year Sweet Briar won 52 to 22, but Westhampton appears stronger on its own floor as Coach Crenshaw emphasizes swift passing and disciplined play.
Trinity College defeated the University of Richmond in a two to one judgment on Friday night for the first inter collegiate debate. Judges Frank Bane B C Shawn and Chas J Churchman cast the deciding vote. The home floor question urged Congress to enact a sales tax with Dr H H Seay Jr presiding as chair.
Nearly a hundred plates will be spread at the annual banquet of The Ministerial Association of the University of Richmond in the Richmond College cafeteria. The Sky Pilots of Westhampton are honored guests as speeches by association presidents yield to a snappy feature program and musical numbers from the Jaspers and Sky Pilots.
Westhampton College delegates Valeria Arrington and Thelma Hill addressed the Norfolk College Women's Club on February 14 to promote college education among high school girls. Despite hopes for other Southern colleges to send stunts, only Westhampton participated, presenting a manikin show detailing college life and sparking interest in Westhampton College.
A joint meeting of the Student Government Association and Athletic Association is set for 4 PM in the Auditorium to discuss and act on proposed Uniform Election Laws. Presidents urge full attendance as the laws posted give potential changes to election method, timing, ballots, and leadership selection.
With the new session beginning next September the University of Richmond will offer a full four year course in business leading to a degree. The program aims to prepare students for managerial roles in commerce and industry.
Lynchburg College fell to the University of Richmond on the local court last Thursday night by 29 to 19. The game was tight with lead changes and small advantages, and Richmond kept the edge late. A preliminary game saw Spider Freshmen defeat Randolph-Macon Freshmen 29 to 19. Thomas Witt and Sutton each scored twice in the first half as local guards contested the pace.
Riddle L W was elected president of the Y M C A to succeed O L Hite at a meeting Thursday night. After devotion the nominating report was read and floor nominations made. New officers include B C McCull vice president C L Caldwell secretary M E H McCall treasurer and R L Hightower secretary of missions.
University of Richmond cagers beat William and Mary 22 to 20 on the Auditorium floor. It marked the Spiders ninth win in twelve starts and a home court winning streak as a large crowd cheered the city showdown.
Delegates from Virginia schools gathered at Charlottesville First Baptist Church for a three day session of the Fourth Annual Virginia Student Volunteers convention. More than three hundred attendees heard missionaries describe needs abroad and many pledged to go to foreign fields after the Sunday closing. Delegates were received at the city Y M C A for room and board arrangements.
