Excitement grips Westhampton as seniors, juniors and freshmen prepare for the Song Contest in Keller Hall next Wednesday. Seniors eye a final win, while juniors chase a three-year sweep. secrecy colors practice as each class guards its proclamation song and paces its performance for victory.
The University Players join eight other colleges for the Second Annual Virginia College Drama Festival at the Virginia Museum Theatre. The opening 2 pm show features scenes from The Children's Hour directed by Margaret Carver with cast including Barbara Mathews Jan Higwinbotham Jehane Flint James Wicker and Don Linahan. Harold Clurman will critique after each session.
Nominations for the 1958 59 student government officers must be submitted to Ellis West by midnight February 24. Each petition requires at least three signatures. Candidates will be introduced during the convocation on February 25.
Buddy Morrow Band performs at Millhiser Gym on April 12 with an afternoon concert and evening show. A $5.50 ticket admits one couple to both performances, sponsored by the Richmond College Student Government Association.
The Westhampton Freshman Class Circus comes to the Greek Theatre on Friday March 7 from 4 to 6 pm featuring animals, acrobats, clowns, and a ringmaster Marcia Bowman. A parade on March 5 will announce the event with vendors selling circus goodies and a post show at a Richmond orphan home.
Westhampton prepares for a Junior Senior Weekend March 14 and 15. Johnny Long and his band headline Saturday events with a concert and dance in Keller Hall. Senior and Junior dances run Friday and Saturday with tickets sold by committee members. Weekend passes cost 6.50 with individual prices for each event.
Dean Robert Smart announced Barracks E would close for the rest of the semester as the college moves toward a permanent dormitory. About seven of the 18 Barracks E residents plan to transfer to permanent dorms, leaving eleven unoccupied rooms in other barracks while transfers to Barracks I or other spaces incur no cost.
February 21 marks the sophomore class project announced by Peggy Sue Roberts chairing the meeting of February 6. The committee Nancy Jenkins Louise Deaton Millie Bagley and Audrey Nuckolls planned hats from wash cloths in yellow green blue and aqua to be given to residents of the City Home for the Aged along with entertainment and refreshments.
Dr. Homer L. Dodge, president emeritus of Norwich University, will lecture on Soviet life at Keller Hall 8:00 p.m. Friday February 28. The talk, part of a Sigma Pi Sigma tour under the Thomas Foundation, covers his on the spot study of Soviet education and its implications for American education.
