John R. Rilling leads the Second 20 Million Committee as it proposes uses for the remaining 15 million from the Our Time in History drive. Ideas include scholarships, endowed chairs, faculty salaries, and teaching improvements while maintaining a 1 to 17 faculty student ratio by 1981.
The University of Richmond Curriculum Committee invites students faculty and administrators to answer questions on the freshman year curriculum aims. Objectives include interdisciplinary knowledge cognitive skills independent inquiry and career options with emphasis on implementation guidelines.
Richmond and Westhampton College committees survey faculty on self scheduling of exams for the first semester. Chairmen Poston and Meek report good early response to a five question survey about self scheduling and cheating concerns. Results will be shared with students via the Collegian, and future proposals may be reconsidered if the approach succeeds.
Opportunities abound for University of Richmond students to study abroad. Dr. Edward C. Peple provides information on programs worldwide from Europe to other regions. One student is in London and another in Scotland, with 16 UR students having begun preliminary steps. There are 15 to 20 programs listed, mostly summer options, according to Peple.
