Lord Dun sany comedy A Night At An Inn chosen by the English V Class under Professor H B Handy for a production at the Westhampton Red Cross Building on March third. It marks a rare effort by the class to stage a play this term with a good cast announced.
At Westhampton College the faculty approved a definite test timetable after student body requests. Classes 2 to 3 PM take tests Monday. 9 to 10 and 10 to 1 AM tests split across Tuesday and Wednesday. 11 to 12 and 12 to 1 PM tests on Thursday and Friday. Pop quizzes may occur any day with professor discretion.
The Spider Band performed a lively half hour program just before the Invitation Indoor Track Meet at the Grays' Armory. The concert boosted mood and contributed to the meet's success. A broadcast from WRVA was planned for January but postponed with date TBA.
Spider Band 10 CO prepares a second radio concert from WRVA Edgeworth Tobacco Station Richmond on March 3. A 9 30 to 11 P M hour and a half program will be aired after earlier plans for Jan 25 were paused by SOS radio silence. Director Hoelzle praised the band and University Quartette and noted public demand prompted the March 3 appearance.
C. R. Brown topped the January honor roll with five A grades in an office announcement. The list includes seventy nine names in total, following this lead.
Illness of a debater postpones the Swarthmore debate from Feb 19 to a date in March or April. Misses Ione Stuessy and Virginia McDaniel selected to debate the Swarthmore team.
The Richmond Woman's Club will host Norwegian actress Anna Heni on February 24 for a recital combining interpretive modern drama and artistic presentation. Heni’s readings from Ishen have impressed audiences internationally and in the United States, with strong English press praise.
Westhampton Senior Class stages a publicity drive at the Bijou Theater. Sixteen prominent seniors will model for Dreyfus department store during the week of Feb 21, with shows at 3, 7, and 9 oclock. Proceeds go to the Woman's Building Fund.
The Westhampton Freshman class presents three one act plays this evening at 8. Columbine A Sunny Morning and The Beau of Bath are directed by Mrs R R Chappell and Emily Brown with University of Richmond ties.
The Omicron Chapter of Theta Chi fraternity entertained University of Richmond and Westhampton College faculty and many alumni with their wives on Thursday evening in their new Roselawn Road home. Refreshments were served by Miss Mary Chenery, Miss Katherine Davis and Miss Vera Davis.
The cast of The Dover Road will perform in Baltimore on February 23 under the Baptist Board of Maryland with proceeds for charity. University of Richmond talent travels with Emily Brown and a group of actors including James Carver Warren Chappell Lewyn Davis and Marian Marsh. They depart February 22 by boat and return February 23 by train.
Dr Henry C Sherman professor of food chemistry at Columbia University will headline a Virginia Section American Chemical Society event in Richmond this evening. He will present Recent Developments in the Chemistry of Food and Nutrition at the Medical College of Virginia at 8 15 P M. Before the talk he will be hosted to dinner at the University Club by Virginia chemists.
Third annual banquet of the S. S. S$. Club will be held at the Clover Inn Feb 20 at 7 o'clock. All members requested to be there on time. Guest of honor will be Mr. W. E. Henderson of Nashville Tenn who will act as toastmaster and Mrs. K. A. Pate of Richmond, wife of the first president of the club.
Debating and Forensic Council announces preliminaries to form a team for the Northern debate tour. The try outs occur Wednesday afternoon March 3 at 3 30 in Room 1 of the Administration Building. Contestants may defend either side of the listed topics.
Four Richmond College Y M C A delegates W H Atkins J M Trimmer J B Kin cannon and J W Kincheloe attended the Y M C A Student Convention at William and Mary last Wednesday through Friday. The main topic was establishing regular group discussions on modern topics on every campus to replace unproductive bull sessions. The delegates praised favorable conditions and the discussions and socials meeting expectations with trips to Yorktown and Jamestown.
Henry Wellington Wack noted authority on summer camping delivered an illustrated lecture at the William Fox School. He shown slides from over 400 camps visited and discussed growing place of summer camps in American education. Eight city directors sponsored the event after a University Club dinner.
