The Richmond Spiders posted two victories and one loss in a week of court play. They edged Florida 27 to 26 in a tightly fought game at Roger Millhiser Gym, beat Hampden Sidney 33 to 12, and fell to Trinity 30 to 22 after trailing at halftime.
The Westhampton Senior Class hosted a tea for Mrs. Madeline Snowden of Oswego New York on February 13 from 5 30 to 6 30 in the Westhampton Drawing Room. The event welcomed the men’s college and introduced Mrs. Snowden who has been visiting colleges and giving readings during her two week stay with Miss May L Keller.
President Boatwright declares next Thursday a university holiday to observe February 22nd Washingtons Birthday. The day is not routinely a holiday but high demand among faculty led to the decision to close school for the occasion this year.
Arrangements are completed for the annual Virginia Prep and High School Declamation Contest to be held at the University on George Washingtons Birthday. Delegates from many state schools expected. Professor Handy in charge announces a preliminary elimination in the afternoon to reduce contestants to six.
Freshman Class sets a Rat Banquet at the Richmond Hotel next Wednesday at 8 with about two hundred guests. An orchestra and a colored quartet will perform as officers invite Dr. F. W. Boatwright Dean W. L. Prince Dean May L. Keller Professor R. C. Astrop and Coach Frank Dobson.
Omicron Delta Kappa annual convention to be hosted by Epsilon Circle at the university with about forty visitors arriving tonight or tomorrow. President Waverly Jones heads the Entertainment Committee and dormitories will house guests. Tonight features a midwinter German Club Dance at Trayhoy Studio in Richmond. official sessions begin Saturday morning.
Many students run in coming election at the University. The February 22 polls will feature a record slate with over thirty names already entered for various offices including three candidates for Student Government President and twelve for senator. The list may grow as more entries are announced.
University of Richmond debaters W N Beehler and W C Atkins defeated Lynchburg College pair W A McNeill and J G Tarrant by 2 to 1 in each of two debates held Saturday night in the University chapel. The event started at 8 o'clock and drew fewer spectators due to a concurrent Spider basketball game.
Miss Peggy Butterfield will play Mary Ann and Warren McNeill portrays Lancelot in Merely Mary Ann at the Strand Theater tomorrow night. The performance, supported by the Senior Class and the Alumnae Association, has 500 tickets for students and 85 Association members in Richmond. Tickets exchange at the Strand box office today or tomorrow. Westhampton College women will usher and sell candy between acts.
The Juniors performed a costumed silent comedy at West Hampton gymnasium Friday night. Freshmen were amused by impersonations of Chaplin and other film stars, with Miss Mary Peple writing and directing the show.
