Phi Beta Kappa lists fifteen seniors at N C State. Interfraternity Midwinter dances planned for February 28 and 29 feature Jimmy Poyner and his collegiate orchestra. Tickets expected to run up to eight dollars with a potential two fifty limit.
Richmond College opened the 1936 forensic season by defeating Bridgewater College in an encounter held Thursday night at the Williams Law School. About forty attended as Clyde Hardy J T Arendall and Noah Wehl left to meet Bridgewater and contact Roanoke and Lynchburg College teams.
President Boatwright announced Joseph Nettles of Richmond as alumni secretary and publicity director for the University. Nettles, a 1920s graduate, has newspaper experience with the Virginia Associated Press and served on the Virginia staff. He entered the university in 1926 and was class president. continued on page four.
A four member delegation from the Ministerial Association of Richmond College attended the Virginia Baptist General Association meeting in Lynchburg from Tuesday to Thursday. The group included Temlinagen vice president Laurhon Carrington Paulette Harry I James and Horace Ford. Reports from Baptist units and plans to boost local associations were discussed. Dean Pinchbeck addressed youth development and Dr Harris spoke on campus progress. Giorge Harris presided on February 6 and urged strengthening the association with member input.
The senior class plans a reunion to strengthen ties with the Alumni Association and to facilitate post graduation integration. A Thanksgiving 1940 event is approved with a March 14 ball in the gym from 9 to 12 featuring a local orchestra. Officers include Prod Mack as chairman and members Wilfred Gregory Julian Houseman Redwood Carnell Gordon Christianson and Robert Harris.
Saturday February 15 marks the final day for students to subscribe to the 16 Web at 2.75 dollars. Afterward the price rises to three dollars, says Bob Harriss the business manager.
At a special Debate Council meeting Mildred Vick argued for congressional power to override Supreme Court rulings by a two third vote. The planned southern trip includes Duke University Meredith College and North Carolina State with a schedule of visits across March and April featuring Hampden Sydney Mary Baldwin Trinity and more.
Dr. Rufus M. Jones, renowned theologian and Haverford College philosophy professor, appears on University Week schedule. He opens with Vesper services Sunday at Cannon Memorial Chapel at 7 PM and follows with talks to the Richmond Ministerial Union Monday morning and a joint convocation at 12 30 PM, plus an 8 PM public lecture. He speaks again Tuesday at Cannon Chapel with sessions for students and public audiences.
Dr Gustav Heloff world known lecturer speaks at 4 00 this afternoon in the chemistry lecture room under the Chemistry Club. Topic Some Phases of Science in the Oil Industry. Heloff is a Cornell and Columbia PhD graduate with long industry and research work and numerous patents.
The Richmond College and Westhampton students join ten undergraduates five co employees and two alumni elected February 10 to Phi Beta Kappa. Recipients include Jed W Black Jr and William Compton with origins in Virginia and Kentucky. alumni include Wayland Dunham and Isabel Harris.
Preparations are under way for the second issue of the Richmond College Messenger slated for late March. The staff targets a wide student interest debate and invites rapid submissions, especially essays, from Molter Jones and others.
