Dick Nash announces a February 17 primary at 11 30 am in the Playhouse to choose the All Campus Party presidential candidate for the March 2 Student Government elections. Only party members and recognized followers may vote, but the campus is invited to attend.
The next Messenger issue will be a 16 page campus magazine with a promise of a 20 page issue next month and a 24 page issue in May. Mimi Thalenberg’s poem A Buried Child Sometimes Loves the Fire drew attention from Campus Parade and has been requested for reprinting by the national college magazine.
Richmond College schedules a March 2 election in the Playhouse to fill nine Student Government roles including president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, Athletic Council rep, and four at large senators. Campaigns by Student and All-Campus Parties will be shown at February 24 convocation in Cannon Memorial Chapel.
The University Camera Club will meet at 12 45 pm Tuesday in Room 108 Biology Building to frame a new constitution and elect officers for the second semester. Copies of a proposed charter were received from Eastman Kodak Company and will be presented. photography students are invited to attend.
Professor Alton Williams announces the annual Players Revue on March 12 inviting any student with stage talent to participate. The event could net the university about $100 000 and will include song dance magic and specialty acts.
University of Richmond students join delegates from North Carolina Tennessee and Virginia at the annual International Relations Club conference in Chapel Hill N C February 27 and 28 The program covers Near Eastern Nationalism European Recovery Plan United Nations Declining Imperialism in the Far East and related topics with a Peace or Pieces theme The event includes a United Nations representative and a Carnegie Foundation visitor and aims to spark campus interest in world affairs with UN activities displayed around campus
The Interfraternity Dance Committee announces five new members led by Jimmy Banks to boost Mid Winter Dances decorations. New appointees are Tommy Leath Buzz Leath Chase Decker Walter Hyer and Jimmy Heslip. The theme centers on campus social fraternities with banners and fraternity shields in the gym.
Rho Tau Al Mosque Al Evans announces the annual Rho Tau Dance will be held at the Mosque ballroom at 9 p.m. Saturday instead of the Grays Armory as previously planned.
Oscar Wooten outlined six goals for the Student Party at Richmond College in 1948 including improved campus parking and Chapel convocations, a non varsity Rep to the Athletic Council, pencil sharpeners for every building, lake cleanup, revived sports events on Westhampton Lake, and restoring family service in the Refectory. The party plans to nominate candidates representing all students and student groups.
The University of Richmond debate team led by John Chamberlayne and Charles Harvey heads to Boston University for the Second Annual International Invitational tonight and tomorrow. Richmond is the sole Southern entrant among Yale Harvard Columbia Notre Dame West Point Naval Academy Chicago MIT and McGill University.
A sterling silver three foot mace was presented in chapel by Chancellor F W Boatwright and accepted by President George M Modlin. Donor remains anonymous and the mace will bear the name of the outstanding student each session for 100 years. The tradition traces to medieval bishops and sergeants at arms, symbolizing authority in higher education.
