Alumnus Writes From Singapore
Yates McDaniel, Richmond College alumnus and AP correspondent, sent his final dispatch from Singapore on Wednesday. A 1927 University of Richmond graduate, he held Omicron Delta Kappa and Kappa Sigma memberships, contributed to the Messenger, and starred in tennis and track. He began journalism in China and later covered Nanking’s fall before moving to Singapore to report news on the emergency there. He noted plans to drive his car into the Malacca Strait to avoid leaving it to the Japanese.
