University of Richmond Lecture Series Returns This Winter

The University of Richmond offers seven weekly public lectures in the I C Williams Law School Auditorium from February 16 to April 13 at 8 p m Mondays. Opening talk by President F W Boatwright on Americas Greatest Cult will be presided by Dr S C Mitchell.

Westhampton Prom and Supper Dance Recalls Formal Evening

Westhampton hosted a Friday country club prom with a well organized guest list and proper etiquette. The Southern Club provided the orchestra and the supper intermission featured elegant dining. Attendees in evening dress created a refined campus atmosphere while many looked back on prior events as hazy memories.

Richmond College International Relations Club Terms Elections

The club met February 4 in Room 1 of the Administration Building to read and discuss the constitution and to plan the February 19 officer election at 7 30 in the Administration Building. The treasurer urged immediate payment of back dues and the next topic will be Gandhi’s policy in India. President Carbone presided.

Plans for Christian Education Conference Nearing Completion

Plans for Christian World Education Week from February 28 to March 3 are nearly set with visiting speakers and a partial schedule. Three public addresses, several discussion groups, classroom lectures, and personal interviews will cover religion, politics, and economics. Speakers include Dr. Jerome Davis of Yale on February 28 and 29, Dr. Hurvey on Latin American topics, Dr. Ronald Tamblyn on a changing world, and Dr. R. E. Blackwell potentially part of the program.

Scholarship Cup under Interfraternity grading proposal

The Interfraternity Council discussed changing the Scholarship Cup grading to align with the dean's system. Credits would be A 3 B 2 C 2 under a weekly quality credits per hour formula, with possible penalties for E and F grades. Sigma Phi Epsilon already holds the permanent trophy based on the old system.

Proposal to discontinue Messenger publication at Richmond College

The Student Government Association debated whether to end the campus magazine The Messenger at its meeting last Monday. Harold Hutcheson offered a detailed resolution proposing that the SGA sever its connection with The Messenger due to its declining status.

The library at Morris reports receipt of forty seven new titles. Freshman Editorial Contest Urges Writing Prize Chance

Freshmen urged to submit a 500 word editorial for the Pi Delta Epsilon contest. Entries must include a title and be typed or inked, with the writer’s name in a sealed envelope beside the title.

University Players Will Meet Monday

Invitations by the University Players will be reissued for February 16 at 8 o'clock in the Westhampton Drawing Room. Those who received invitations January 12 are reinvited and others on campus interested in dramatics are also invited to attend this informal meeting. Plans are being made for a campus production soon.

University of Richmond president reports rising enrollment

Dr. F W Boatwright told the board of trustees on February 5 that 1 283 students were enrolled at semester end and that total registration is likely to exceed last year 1 292 students. He urged completing a 600 000 boost to the centennial campaign fund of 2 000 000 and planning next years centennial celebration. The T C Williams School of Law joined the Association of American Law Schools, marking national recognition and prompting plans to enlarge the department and move it to campus.

Dr Martin to Speak at Vesper Services

A Sunday Vesper service drew good attendance with the University Choir performing. Next Sunday February 15 Dr W J Martin, former president of Davidson College, will speak, announced by the Vesper Committee chaired by Dr W B Holtzclaw, during his initial visit to Richmond.

Just Fancy Presented by University Faculty

The University of Richmond faculty and Miss Helen Mansell will present an original revue in the Red Cross Building. The piece lampoons faculty life with songs and sketches, featuring Miss Keller and Mr. Caylor among the cast.

Dr Hale Addresses Science Group Today

The Science Group at the University of Richmond meets this afternoon at 2 in the chemistry lecture room. Dr William J Hale director of Organic Chemical Research for Dow Chemical Co will speak on The Recent Applications of Organic Chemistry to Chemical Industry. He will again address the Virginia section of the American Chemical Society at 7 pm on Chemistry in Agriculture.

Latin Department Entertainment at Westhampton College

Invitations announce an entertainment by the Latin Department at Westhampton College tonight at 7 45 p m in the Red Cross Building. The Latin prose program will feature pieces tied to classical subjects and time will be noted clearly. Faculty members are expected to attend.
