The 1937 Web staff will host the Hatchet Hop on February 26 in the Mill Hiser gym to celebrate George Washington's birthday. Admission is fifty cents with a Web subscription. non subscribers cannot attend. Balloting for the Westhampton beauty for 1086 87 will occur at the door and be announced later.
Joseph Nettles, Alumni secretary, says Richmond graduates now chair the Interstate Commerce Commission Carroll Miller class of 1895 leads the ICC Oscar B Ryder from 1908 09 and Phi Beta Kappa 1935 chairs the U S Tariff Committee John Garland Pollard heads the Veterans Claims Bureau Class of 1891 and later earned a Doctor of Laws from the University of Richmond
The Collegian board announced a March 1 1937 deadline for editor applications as it prepares for senior editor resignations at Easter. Staff members may apply for any post regardless of previous office, with retiring editor’s recommendation weighing but not deciding. New editors for The Web and The Messenger follow later in the year.
Carroll Williams appointed Student Government Senator to serve the unexpired term of Robert Vaughan at the University of Richmond. A Phoenix and Chemistry Club member and biology lab instructor, he has been curator of the biology insect collection since freshman year and graduates with intermediate honors from John Marshall High School.
The University of Richmond Radio Guild held its first spring meeting in Biology room 110 and will host weekly broadcasts for about ten weeks. The lineup includes musical and dramatic programs and campus faculty interviews on WRVA at 6 45 PM with topics ranging from neutrality to lie detectors.
Information for applicants at Richmond and Westhampton Colleges to apply in writing for editor associate editor or managing editor positions. Applications must arrive by Monday March 1 1937 and be mailed to the Board of Publications president Dr L H Walton 5818 York Road Richmond Virginia.
All campus organizations seeking representation in the 1937 yearbook are urged to pay the business manager, Paul Somers, by February 15, 1937 to ensure inclusion in the annual.
Dr R Loving head of the Physics department opened the annual faculty lecture series with Some Popular Misconceptions in Physics. He critiqued weather forecasts and almanac clerks while noting eighty five percent accuracy. Next lecture by Dr Garrett Ryland on Modern Metals to discuss progress in stronger lighter metals for aviation and trains. Dr H S Mead presided. lecture at 8 15 PM in the T C Williams School of Law.
Fraternity neophytes at Richmond endure Hell Week with jitters and hazing pranks. Freshmen dressed in bathrobes, measured buildings, fished wastebaskets, and interviewed Westhampton girls while upperclassmen relied on cigarettes and chewing gum.
The Roy Dennis Orchestra will perform Harlem night club styled music for the 1997 Rigmarole on February 27. Miss Mildred Markham directs the dancing and pony ballet while a cast from several fraternities and campus groups participates in the show.
The University Chemistry Club met yesterday at 4 30 PM in the Chemistry building to discuss several papers including Chemical Microscopy by J P Crowder. A visit to Liggett and Meyers Tobacco Company is planned for February 18 with further tours in Washington, D C in March.
