Harold White, spokesman for the Student Party, outlined a platform aiming for stronger student government and better campus facilities. He noted past gains such as pencil sharpeners in class buildings and detailed plans on matriculation, textbook pricing surveys, deposits, and meal-based billing.
A committee chaired by President Stuart Massie was formed to advise Richmond College and the School of Business Administration SGA on revisions to the RC constitution and the new school’s draft. Members include Roberts, Harvey, Cline, Weber, Marks, Booker, White, Singleton, Snead, Gans, and Sease.
George Towne's Stork Club Orchestra will headline the Midwinter Dances at Millhiser Gym February 25 and 26. The Interfraternity Council announced ticket options for card holders and non-subscribers, with a Friday formal and Saturday informal dances plus a Saturday afternoon concert.
Boston actress Miss Emily Brown opens the Thomas Lecture Foundation series with Sidney Kingsley’s The Patriots in Keller Hall Reception Room. The free event, part of a campus program, highlights her reading talents and is open to all students and staff.
The University Board of Trustees did not discuss the student deposit fee at last week's meeting. A decision on whether to lower the current $25 fee will wait until the next board session, scheduled before the end of the semester. Strong student criticism labeled the fee as excessive and unjustified.
The Westhampton College Dean's List for the first semester of 1948 49 names 51 students, about 12 percent of the student body, with 35 quality credits and no more than one grade above CG. Seniors Rosamond Calhoun and nine others top the list with four more class standings represented.
Six campus honor societies will induct new members during the first University Honors Week from March 15 at Westhampton College to March 25 at the Honor Convocation. Inductees include Pi Delta Epsilon Tau Kappa Alpha Motor Board Eta Sigma Phi Omicron Delta Kappa. Phi Beta Kappa announcements will be made at the Convocation.
Dr Charles W Gilkey and his wife address Religious Emphasis Week at the University of Richmond calling for stronger racial attitudes to curb communist influence. He cites past campus experiences in Chicago and notes the YWCA and United Council of Church Women work on race issues. Continued on Page Six.
The All Campus Party releases its seven point platform led by a push to speed up construction of the Student Activities Building. Additional goals include dining upgrades with coke machines and lounges, dormitory repair boards, non swimming water sports on the lake with a boat house, and ongoing campus facilities improvements. Charles Halloran, party chairman, announces March 1 Student Government elections.
After months of work the Constitution Committee of the Student Bar at the T G Williams School of Law completed a new student Constitution. It would be voted February 17 from 9 am to 3 pm. The committee includes Wilbur Kessler Coleman McGehee and Frederick Gray. Continuous changes require three fourths of voters or active members for action.
