Faculty at Richmond College criticized the honor system as failing to stop rampant cheating in early courses. Professors urged improvements while noting students fear reporting violations weakens enforcement. The meeting, routine in nature, ended without a recommendation to abolish the system, though discourse highlighted moral risk and administrative responsibility.
James Sease announces nominations for Richmond College Student Government are due by Tuesday February 28. Election is set for Tuesday March 6 with candidate arguments to be heard at a February 28 assembly. Platforms and candidate names to be published in future Gon LEGIAN editions.
The Living Room Players will be guests at the University Players meeting Sunday February 12 at 8 15 in the Keller Hall faculty sitting room. Tryouts for the first production of the semester will be held Monday from 3 to 5 pm in the Playhouse. The arena style show is planned for Keller Hall February 10 17 with final play to be chosen.
Two one act plays prepared for members by the Living Room Players who have performed for over 4 000 people in the community. Continued on Page 6.
Mary Aylete Creath the Westhampton freshman was named sponsor of Richmond College Junior Class. She will be presented at the Junior Prom on Saturday February 18 at Millhiser Gym escorted by Henry Dwyer class vice president. Admission is by class cards only. Tickets are $1.00. The dance runs eight to twelve cabaret style with a Washington birthday patriotic theme.
The Honor Council found case number one guilty this week for falsifying an absence excuse and imposed the minor penalty.
The Board of Trustees, following University Senate recommendations, changed B A science and B S language rules. BA students may need one or two sciences depending on math credits, while BS language options include 12 hours in one language or six hours in two languages. New social science groupings for BA and BS require specific six hour distributions. Business School admissions now require 12 English hours and six math hours.
The University Band and Glee Club, led by Mark F. Troxell, anticipate a richer season with four concert tours to Mary Washington College Front Royal and Luray High School. The Band counts on Prokofiev works and Glenn Miller tunes with a brass choir and bop-style pieces.
The Westhampton Senior Class will be entertained by its Sophomore Class at a Friendship Banquet on Wednesday February 15 at 6 30 pm in the Winter Garden of the Hotel Richmond. Harriet Stubbs president of the Class of 1952 notes the tradition aims to honor Big and Little Sisters with Deans and sponsors attending and Jackie Gerson as general chairman.
The Board of Trustees in a semi annual meeting authorized the erection of lodges for the 11 social fraternities on campus. The plan promises equal facilities for all lodges, with uniform architecture, subject to review after fraternities requested an inquiry into housing conditions.
The Board forms a campaign committee to fund student activities building. Bids were opened earlier. report to follow. No action on Richmond College medical facilities. Fraternities approve a terror arrangement. The University will lend up to 50 percent of the lodge cost, up to $7,500, over 20 years, and provide land water sewage roads and parking while the flats handle site grading.
The Junior Class of Westhampton College will show The Corsican Brothers on Friday February 10 in the Keller Hall college government room after the French meeting at 8 15 p m. Douglas Fairbanks Jr stars in the film and admission is twenty five cents Frances Arrighi and Liz Latimer announce the event inviting all Richmond and Westhampton students to attend.
The Richmond Henrico Chapter and campus drive failed to meet their quotas during January 16 to 31 amid exam season. Despite a strong National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis backing, contributions lagged with 150 donations totaling 180 dollars, though WC girls raised 25 dollars and earned commendation for leadership.
