Dr. Boatwright, president, outlined University of Richmond plans to adopt the English system with a colony of small colleges and expanded housing to grow beyond the current enrollment of 780 for the session. The move follows the 1914 Westhampton relocation and aims to prevent unwieldy student body growth.
Plans are in place for a February 17 debate between Trinity College and the University of Richmond. The question is whether Congress should enact a sales tax. University of Richmond and U of R debaters are named to support the affirmative or negative. the University of Richmond team will defend the opposite side.
A Red Cross venue hosted the Glee Club with a two part program. The first part featured piano and vocal solos with opening and closing chorus numbers. The second part portrayed a college boy’s scene.
Announcement of a conference by the Student Volunteers of Virginia to be held in Charlottesville from February 17 to 19. Delegations from Richmond and Westhampton Colleges will attend to unite Virginia students pledging life to world wide mission work.
The Philologians won against Mu Sigma Rho by a two to one vote in the second Inter society Debate of the year held Monday evening in Richmond College chapel before a large crowd. W. G. Keith and J. Rotella provided the seasoned performance supporting the affirmative.
A letter to Treasurer Tabb dated February 7 reports President Boatwright aboard the Lapland leaving New York. He notes The New York Times and four other papers sent photographers to capture shots of Boatwright and the speaker, with close-ups of him and a group portrait.
Red and Blue split this week with six wins and three losses after a defeat to William and Mary and a victory over Union Theological Seminary. The Spiders remain undefeated on their home floor this season despite a hard fought game in Williamsburg last Saturday night.
The Theta Chi Fraternity holds its fourth annual conclave for Virginia and North Carolina chapters at the Richmond Hotel. Delegates attend from the University of Richmond Hampden Sydney College University of Virginia and University of North Carolina. A Friday dance a Richmond tour and a Saturday buffet supper and smoker were on the program. About seventy five delegates and many prominent alumni attended.
The Spiders schedule three games this coming week with Lynchburg High School freshman team tonight, Richmond Light Infantry Blues varsity tomorrow, and Lynchburg College on Thursday. Captain McKee returns, boosting the Freshman lineup as Roanoke College cancels its game, replacing it with Richmond Blues action.
Invitations go to Virginia accredited prep and high schools for the University of Richmond Declamation Contest on February 22 in the Richmond College auditorium. Many schools are expected to send representatives as the contest is open to all credited prep and high schools in Virginia. Professor Handy urged early submission of names to the university.
