REW stresses imminent challenges as a religious emphasis week closes. Speakers address ethics, responsibility, and influence of media while urging a shift from tradition toward a creative, participatory life and a unified religious secular movement.
A Richmond College SGA committee studies a proposal allowing women to use the lounges in the men's dorms. Committee chair Dwight Inge and members David Whitacre and Les Lilley will report to the Senate. The plan aims to enable access by February 16 for the Jackie Wilson concert led by SGA president Charles Poston.
Fred Smith to head RC Fraternity slate for March 5 SGA elections. Josh Pretlow elected chairman. Nominated for RC offices include president and seven senate seats with 13 fraternities voting. Petitions due Feb 11 25 for RC and Feb 20 for SBA. speeches Feb 27.
A special election will fill a sophomore class senator seat on February 20 after Butch Hinton transferred. Petitions with five sophomore signatures are due to Charles Poston or Richard Epps by midnight February 18, and any sophomore with a true O average is eligible to run.
Louis Reuben Tom Wolfe and Thomas J. J. Altizer will speak at Cannon Memorial Chapel in February. Reuben discusses Huckleberry Finn and American literature while Wolfe covers The New Journalism and Altizer presents Theological Foundations of the Death of God Theology. An exhibit on all three authors runs in Boatwright Library through February 26 with works sale in the lobby.
Jackie Wilson appears next Friday in a blanket concert hosted by the Richmond College Student Government Association. The event runs 7 to 9 pm in Millhiser Gymnasium with a three piece organ trio backing him. Tickets are 2.50 and available from Senate members, the College Shop, or at the door.
